thursday hunt 9/19....(ring)

Went into town today to put the finishing touch on a property I scored awhile back and on the way to the house I noticed fresh dug up dirt in another yard so I had to pull in and ask? The old boy said "have at er!" He also told me the house was 100yrs old and I'd mentioned that most the old homes in town I'd been searching had either foundation work and/or lots of fill over the years. He said the fresh dirt I was eyeballing was also fill he'd put in back around '75. No silver coin today but had a couple "teasers" and dug 4 wheaties, lots of toys including the Hubley, 2 pocket watches, marbles, and this sterling ring with a stone and 10 smaller stones in the setting. Have no idea what the stone is but the ring is high quality and the workmanship is exsquisit? Left quite a few toys and oddball stuff for the property owner and will return the ring to the owners daughter at the bank (she works there) tomorrow. Should be good PR for me as my agreement with property owners is they get any jewelry I find. No silver coin (yet) but an interesting hunt. Have a new old home to get started on tomorrow so will finish this one up some other day......

Nice going! A new place to detect and a little 'PR' might payoff big one day. It looks like you had a great time.

Good hunt.

Was there a cloths line still up or did the guy know where it used to be? Old cloths line areas have been hot spots for me; some coins, and frequently a good spot to pick up a ring or two.

Nice touch with the jewelry going back to the owner. I've given jewelry back when they recognized it as one of their family's pieces. If they didn't recognize it, I'd take it home most times. Sometimes those old toys would be something the property owner remembered fondly and would pick out of the finds to keep.

Thanks guys....!!!! Yeah, already did a quick-over at the clothesline....lol I'm a coin guy and could care less about any jewelry so I always offer it up to the property owners. The old boy told me he's rarely there and lucky I'd caught him there today. His daughter saw me there and came over to see what I was doing there. We introduced ourselves and she mentioned she worked at the bank. My devious mind thought that if I return the ring to her at the bank that she'll show it to all her co-workers and it'll help my cause possibly???? Even though I've lived here for 19yrs now, I live out of town and not well known around town. It seems that lately I'm starting to get my foot in the door on a few properties. I've given up several rings now to owners and if my hunt is somewhat successful (3+ silver coins) I buy the owner an apple pie and ask if I can use them for a refference? So far...so good and being able to "name drop" around this podunk goes a LONG way...... In fact the old home I'm doing tomorrow is the son of a lady that let me hunt her place. Her son originally wanted nothing to do with anyone in his yard until he saw what I'd dug at his Mom's place.....lol

The above is working for me right now..... something to think about

Great hunt and a really great write up about how you work those yards and the getting permission and all...this will be important to others that have an urge to yard hunt..Nice work all around..:clapping:
