Thursday Hunt 2

cwilk

New member
Paul asked if I ever leave the ground. Lately I have been hunting a LOT more than normal. Today was my longest ever time spent in the field. 7 total hours with a four hour hunt in the morning and a 3 hour hunt this evening. I am going back to two hour hunts, once a day, 3 or 4 times a week after I hit this goal. I also think I am going to stop posting pics of my clad and will only force you guys to look at my swag when there is something decent.

Tonight was great. Metal detecting is always great, though. Got to my site and had to keep moving as the fields went into use. Was forced away right toward that Kennedy Half which is always a great find, at least for me. When I finally found a quiet spot it was loaded with coins, mostly quarters and dimes. I did a quick count and dropped a ton of coins. Took a while to find them all. I set my stop time and stuck to it no matter how many coins I had in my pocket. 3rd find from the end of the hunt was the ultra-cool sterling elephant ring. 4.77g. My second silver elephant ring of the year. This looks good for John McCain.

Here are totals for today.

Total time hunted 7 hrs.
Sites hunted 3
Wheat Cents-1
Memorial and Canadian Cents-62 (I put Canadian Cents prior to 1958 in with my wheats, later than that I turn them in.)
Nickels-20
Dimes-68
Quarters-54
Half Dollars-1
Presidential Dollars-1
Total coins-207

Now for some milestones. I beat my personal best coin day by 1 coin. The record stood at 206 and now stands at 207. Wasn't even really thinking about that. I also beat my personal highest dollar amount of clad in a day. Old was $16.55 now $23.43. That includes the wheat, FYI. Todays hunt was the first time I ever found at least one of each of the US circulating coins. Obviously hardest to find a Dollar and a Half Dollar on the same day.

The final site has been my best clad producer over the past 6 months but it is slowly drying up. The elephant ring is the first piece of jewelry I have ever gotten there so I was a nice surprise.

I read your coinshooter article as I read all of your stuff, Bill, and tried a few new things today. I worked out, I think.

188 coins to 10,000 and then y'all get a break and so do I. Pretty sure it will happen Saturday.

Chris

Long post again. Hope it motivates somebody as many of your finds and posts motivate me.

Lots of coin finds. Getting closer to your target.

You done real good bud. Don't think I could stand that 7 hours in the field but if I had areas that produced coins like yours do I'd give it a shot.

Bill

you must have an orthopedic surgeon on standby for full knee replacement. If I found anyplace around here to find as many coins as you do I'd be on the ground rolling it like an old hound dog or Uncle Willy whichever comes first. The public areas around here are hit hard. We have one park here that covers 89 acres. You might and I do mean might find 207 coins with 7-8 hours a day for a week to get that total and they would mostly be cents. The population of the city where I live is 42,000 and the county is 102,000. If anyone lives in a large metropolitan area they can have access to many sites that are not hammered. Bill is running into more MD'ers in his area cleaning out his money holes. I also think that some school system aren't dealing in cash for anything and there isn't any reason for the kids to carry money to lose. Congratulations on your find's and I AM jealous.

One site was very little junk but I bet I still dug 100 non keepers for the day. I found a few coin spills. One was 8 or 9 coins. Had a couple of two quarter 50 cent piece hits. I like to average 20 coins an hour when I'm concentrating on clad and I still have a few sites where 30 and hour is very possible. I have been fortunate to be the first detector from my parts in a long while to concentrate on the types of spots I like to hunt. The 3 or 4 other treasure hunters I know are old foundation type hunters. I gladly give up this type of hunting and they leave my sites to me for the most part.

The intention of my posts is not to brag or boast nor is it to make anybody jealous. I have begun to think it looks that way and that's why I will not be posting normal daily finds after I hit 10k.

Chris

I know you weren't. I still feel a bit conceited about making so many recent of posts about my detecting. It is not my personality at all.

I was showing the ring I found last week-end, the one with my initials, around to some friends and this person who I thought was my pal made a comment that there was no way I found it detecting. I laughed and showed him how the ring did not fit any finger except my thumb. He again said I probably bought it and was just showing off. I asked if he was serious and his answer told me he was at least somewhat serious. I told him he was treading on dangerous ground and gave him one more chance to tell me whether or not he was serious. He again doubted my story. I thanked him for making an easy decision for me. If his opinion of me was such that he thought I would lie about such an insignificant matter, merely to inflate my own ego, or to brag, or to somehow gain his esteem by showing off a large gold ring, that I no longer required his friendship. I meant it. There were other issues between us concerning his honesty and I didn't need much extra persuasion.

I'll be honest with you. The first three or four times I read your post I had mixed feelings about whether or not you were saying I was fibbing about how many coins I have been finding. I determined that it really didn't matter and replied as I did.

Finally. I always enjoy your posts. There is something about a person who puts his name on his posts that I like. If I have something that is worth writing it is worth putting my name to and that's why I always sign my name to my posts.

Get out and find something, would you? (Wink)

Chris

PS I just got back from a quickie at one of my clad spots.

Keep your posts coming.Personally I enjoy reading about your success, as well as all the other forum members and their finds.I 'm from small town ontario and I doubt there is as many lost coins in my whole township that you have worked to find.I'm new to this hobby and don't have much time in the field yet but I'm slowly learning.I'm getting some of the junk out of my property, and I'm gradually stumbling on to a few coins,so all is well.

Keep posting. I can tell most people on here seem to be modest folks. We love seeing big piles of clad. I really enjoy seeing every individual on here with thier awesome finds. Every dog has his day so it always equals out. I dont consider it bragging maybe showing off your finds which is what makes this forum so interesting. The only thing Im not posting is Pulltabs. Not even the ones that have toned to a gold color and always get my heart rate up.

Plus add to that the fact that Canadian coins are so hard to detect. At least the quarters and dimes are for me. Almost 10,000 lifetime coins and I've gotten one Canadian Quarter and one Canadian dime. Quite a few nickels and a mess of cents. Luckily John and Joel and Leslie and a few other Canadians are here to assist.

Chris

Even worse than gold pullabs are the gold wrappers on chocolate coins. Talk about a heart stopper.
