Thursday Hunt 2 (Need Help Again)

This post could, or should be, how bad do you have it? When I start hunting 2-3 times a day I am really hooked. I didn't plan on going out again but my pal called and wanted to do some trout fishing so I loaded up my truck with rod, reel, GTI 2500, cooler, beer and off we went. He had a fishing spot all picked out and it was really close to an old Catholic Church. We fished and drank beer for a few hours. I got three, little, native brookies and told my pal I was going to talk to the caretaker of the church who I saw was out raking. I got permission to hunt and went til dark. The caretaker pointed out where they set up a volleyball net in the summer and that's where I searched. Was feeling a silver coin and found a silver pencil holder. It is marked 800 and there is another mark which is almost all worn off. I'm about 90 percent sure it's European silver but I am not sure it started out life as a pencil holder. There was and old pencil inside and all I did was wash off the dirt There is a slide mechanism which is missing and a finial up top which probably held a chain but it is crushed. I showed it to the caretaker on my way out and asked if I could keep it. He didn't know what it was and said sure. Weighs 17.21g.

One of you smart cookies might know more about it. If so, I would really like opinions. The first poster who says it looks like a fish is getting slapped.

Chris

The trout were delicious.

Looks like a trout to me. now get to slappin':starwars::poke::stars::rofl:

Just updated my spreadsheet. I'm one coin shy of 6500 lifetime coins with my Garretts. That's since 6/27/07.

Are you going to slap us with a palm or one of those items that may resemble a tasty aquatic animal?

Chirs[/quote]You've been busy:detecting:

Not as tasty, though!

The fish are legal. Nothing in their stomachs at all. Bet my fly was their first meal of the year. Really good eating. Sweet. Wish I had 3 more, though.

7 inches, 7 1/2 inches, 9 inches. Natives to boot.

Smart Alec!

I have too many Crappie in my lake. Most are paper thin and 6 inches long. One bite on each side. The plus side is last year I caught over 400. That was fun. The down side is the hours it takes to fillet them. I did snag a 2lb 4oz Crappie 3 years ago! Fishing and detecting - life is good!

They raised the size limit in NY on Crappie this year. We can't even keep the 6 inchers anymore. This past Winter we got stopped by a DEC guy with a bucket of Yellow Perch and that SOB dumped out all our fish and counted them. We were 4 under our limit of 50 per person. Those guys are worse than the IRS. Life is about 95 percent good. Detecting and fishing don't hurt that percentage. I won't trouble you with the other 5 percent tonight. I'm in too good a mood.

here too many anal orifices leaving holes. Glad to hear someone had enough integrity to ask. Churches are private property.

Paul. I didn't think it was a pencil holder. That's what I wanted help with. I was at the coin shop today and as soon as the owner saw it he said it's a pen. After he looked at it he said maybe a pencil. I thought it might have been a magnifying glass or something else a woman might wear around here neck because of the finial and when it broke it became a pencil holder. Be hard to write with a pencil tied around your neck but it might have been chained to a purse or notepad.

I hunt at two Catholic schools and near the rec hall of another . Not near the church itself but I bet I could if I asked real nice. There is an old shut down Catholic church a few miles up the road that has become a popular spot for dumping garbage. I'd like to buy it and live in it or turn it into a restaurant. The stained glass is really nice.
