After my little water hunt at an old swimming hole (see the beach forum for that post), I went back to my van and geared up for a land hunt.
Shortly after the start, I got an indicated 6" deep high coin hit that bounced down to iron somewhat. I cut a plug, flipped it up, and checked. The target's still in the hole. I scooped out the loose dirt, and scanned that. Nothing. Then I scanned the hole with my Vibraprobe, and got a hit right in the center. As I was scanning, I just happened to expose a little bit of the target with the probe. I could see a reeded silver edge, a dime. I looked at Laurie and told her to go get my camera out of the van. Here's what I saw:

Looks nice in that dirt, doesn't it? Here's another one, in my hand:

Good! My first Merc this year, a '34. Here's a third pic, all cleaned up at home.

Shortly after that, I got another high coin hit. I knew it was deep, but I couldn't pinpoint it. I had a co-located target, 3" away, shallower than the first, that was preventing me from pinpointing the first target. I recovered the shallow one, and got a kid's adjustable junk ring from Hong Kong. I put the plug back, then checked the first target. Yep, still down there, at an indicated 5". I recovered a '50 Roosie dime from under a root. Here's the cleaned-up pic:

I ended up getting one more Wheat, a '47. All-in-all, this was a great day!
