Thursday Demo hunt

Mark and I hit three sites Thursday starting around 9:30 and ending at 2pm. I got 25 memorials, 4 clad quarters, 8 clad dimes, 3 nickels, 21 wheats (earliest was 1927), a 34 quarter and a 54 Rosie, along with several foreign coins. I think Mark did a bit better on the wheats and he got three silvers. The 6" coil is a killer on theses sites.

What kind of site were you guys hunting? Great job.

We focus on house/business demolitions and street and sidewalk renovations. Here in the Houston area there are hundreds of homes that were built in the 20's to 60's that are coming down and new houses being built on the lots. We have had exceptional luck on most of them. Lots of wheats, silvers and on many we find rings, other jewelry, and old Tootsie toys, etc.. We dont usually find anything before the 1900 era but once in a while we will find Indians or other old coins. My oldest Houston area coin is a 1799 1/2 reale and the oldest US is an 1854 seated dime. The reale was from a demo site and the dime was out of a bare ground parking area in what is known as Old Town Spring.

Thanks for the info. I just don't get those opportunities here in So California. All the old has been removed or renovated, but I keep looking. HH Rod

Here is an example of a site which some may think would not hold any good finds. This house was about to be demolished and the demo company gave me permission to hunt it before they began. Lots of clad and quite a few wheat pennies were found but the best find was a nice 1943 Walking Liberty Half Dollar which I dug next to the tree on the side of the lot.
