throwing rings off of bridges, legend or truth?

I've heard some fellow detectorists tell tall-tales about finding 100+ rings in the shallow water underneath a bridge on a well-traveled road. evidently, they say, women stop w/ their man on the way home from a bar or whatever, they get into a fight, and the ring goes into the river. anyone have any luck detecting in these types of areas? or is this just an urban legend??

I have heard this to be true but, remember that everyone throws away bad or stolen stuff of of bridges. After being a PD Diver one of our great things to do was to dive a bridge once a month and bring back all the stolen goodies, check out my buddies site and check out the goodies www.ucidiver.com What you see is what I did for over 12 years.

a couple divers in the New England area somewhere would dive local rivers and streams, finding all sorts of stuff. One area was a bridge just like you mentioned, where the local population would always go to toss the rings of a failed marriage.

I've just gotten started in hunting streams and rivers, but I'm not a diver; I just wade. I use the scoop I use for lake hunting, but will also use a floating sifter to help deal with the gravel and sand. I haven't found a honey-hole like that yet, although I have found an old swimming hole that dates back to the 1870's. I got a bunch of nice older coins out of there. If that millpond ever dries up, I'll be in it in a flash.
