threshold

I usually hunt with the threshold just off because I don't like to hear the constant nulling in and out. What would you say are the advantages of leaving the threshold on? I don't think it affects the depth (not in air anyway). Thanks! -Dave

I don't think it will cause you to miss any normal weak target signals. I like to have some threshold so I can here nulls or any other threshold irregularities. On occasion a deep coin near iron/trash may give a null at first but then gives a promising signal spike when double checked, without any threshold I may not hear an initial signal/null.

Dave, in the air tests I've performed, I found the following: First of all I set up two blocks and put a board across them so that my coil would be at a consistent distance from the coin I was trying to detect. I then placed a coin on the ground under the board and continued to adjust the board higher until I could no longer detect the coin running the threshold one notch below the audible level. I then turned up the threshold one notch so that the threshold was now audible and swept the coil over the board. I could now get a signal on the coin. That tells me you get a little more depth running with an audible threshold. Try it yourself. HH, Doug

Ok, thanks guys for the info. I'll leave the threshold on just audibly as suggested. -Dave
