Threshold volume question

Member
I can never seem to get my threshold volume to a point that's barely audible. I usually have it at 16, but have to turn headphone volume down a lot. But my problem is that if I try to go down to 15 or 14, the hum sounds even worse. It's like a scratchy, bad dial up connection type sound. I have my pitch at 28. It's hard to find the perfect balance it seems. Any help is appreciated

I shouldn't say bad dial up connection sound, but it almost sounds like the hum has interference mixed in with it

Not sure what the real issue is.... scratchy interference or getting the threshold volume just right?

If its scratchy interference, cut the problem in half by disconnecting the headphones to enable the speaker.
If the scratchness is not there with the eTRAC internal speaker enabled then the issue is with the headphones, wiring or connector. If you still observe the issue, then there's something else going on.

If its the threshold volume level, could be you're tone deaf like me and maybe lowering the threshold pitch might help.

Do your headphones have a volume control(s)?

Yea, I use sunray pro golds. Pretty much brand new so I don't think headphones are the issue. Took the etrac outside and that seemed to help the problem. A more solid hum when I did that

Just cause something is new don't mean it has no problems.
Did you try disconnecting the headphones and listening to the eTRAC speaker?

So now, the issue is only when in the house? An important piece of info left out.
If thats the case, strongly suspect household EMI or possibly a whole host of metalic objects playing havoc with the detector, nails in floor-walls, staples in furniture, etc.

One of the worst places to evaluate a metal detector is in the house especially with the sensitivity cranked up.
