Threshold tone on Excalibur ll

Member
I have a new to me Excalibur ll. I can have a nice high tone threshold like I hear on everyone's vids, but when it goes over trash and nulls out, the threshold comes back as a lower tone. I can get the high tone back if I put my scoop next to it and it sounds off...then the high tone is back.

Has anyone else had this happen.

Thanks

Your machine sounds like it is working fine. The last target you swing the coil over will sometimes change the threshold pitch. You will not miss any targets from this as it will change back or you can swing your scoop over the coil to change the threshold tone. Just keep hunting and learning the tones your machine sounds like mine. All metal or PP will give you a steady threshold but if you are new to the machine I suggest leaving it in Disc. for awhile. mine does the same thing but when you go over an object it changes quickly. At first I didn't like it but have now gotten used to it and for me the excal is the best saltwater machine I have ever used in our junk/iron infested beach.....HH

This is the exact same thing that I do with my Sov. GT on the beach. I get the higher tone back by putting my scoop next to the coil.

Its called PITCH HOLD on the Explorers. The threshold takes on the tone of the last target..... its supposed to help alert you when you go over weak deep targets.

I keep a nickle in my shoe to help bring the signal back.

That is one of the things I hate about it.
But it does make since because they want you to know what it NULLED on when going over it.

Sometimes thumping the coil on the ground will reset the threshold. I do that when calibrating the Digisearch meter because I noticed when it resets the meter should read -506 if calibrated right to go 180 on a coin. Easier than sticking a coin on the ground, and I think (?) this reset will also reset the threshold if I remember right. It's easier to do with higher sensitivity levels closer to the machine being unstable.
