Threshold settings??

Just curious as to where you keep your settings? I didn't realize it untiil last night but I had mine turned down quite a bit because when I first got my detector set up last friday it was a loud constant drone so I adjusted it down but it appears maybe too far after reading the manual on volumes again last night. I also had my volume gain too low too. I have it back up now and am ready to go see what I missed. Do you think that this would affect me hearing the deeper targets? What has been your expierence? Thanks in advance!! :help:

I was just experimenting with threshold and gain settings today. I am most comfortable with a threshold that gives a slight whisper (16 in my case). I originally set my gain at the highest setting thinking that deeper signals would be amplified but after experimenting, I prefer that deeper signals be a little muted rather than at full volume thus indicating that they are deeper. I settled on a gain of 15.

I am on about 12 for threshold with headphones 16/17 without, gain 25, volume for me all depends on wind and if I am wearing headphones or not.

Chuck, Where do you keep your volume gain?

Volume gain is at 15. As I said above, I prefer a lower gain to keep deeper target signals lower than shallower targets. I know some like to set the gain at its highest setting so that deeper signals are the same volume as shallower signals. That's the great thing about the CTX, it allows for different styles of hunting.

Well if you go to the explorer forum and read on Bryce's findings ( he's the moderator with years of minelab experience) we don't set the Volume Gain high like 28, 29 or 30 to make deep sound like shallow instead he found untill he had it cranked right upyou couldn't hear some really, really deep coins like dimes down almost a foot deep especially in iron. When he dropped it down a few numbers he lost the coins sounding off entirely so you would miss them completely. So I have mine up on 28/29 all the time and use the depth gauge to see if shallow or not or just lift the coil up and see where signal drops off so as to not miss out on not hearing a really, really deep coin.
Standard Threshold I run with just a slight background hum like 14 or so.

That's the way I have mine set up. I don't really care if it's a whisper, I just want to hear it...If it is a "good" tone, I'll investigate further. IMO, you can't go on others volume, gain and threshold settings anyway...way to many variables.
