Threshold question

On the XT705, will the threshold only work in propecting mode? Does anyone use this mode to coinshoot? Seems to me this mode would probably be a little deeper than the coins mode. I may get the 705, think this mode would do very good on deeper coins. I have a clad quarter buried at 10", a nickle buried at 8", a penny buried at 7" and a clad dime also buried at 7". My XT50 with stock coil will hit all 4 coins with a soft repeatable tone with the quarter a little harder, I do believe the prospecting mode will probably hit them better, what do you guys think? Thanks and HH John

Yes thresh works in coin and all metal, I curently hunt at 0 thresh. Some coin hunt in prospecting mode, I do not. They say it is quite slow --- and it doesn't have the tones to help ID.
I like mine and it should be much simpler for you to pick up I would think, based on the family grouping.
I started with a Bounty Hunter for about 2 wks. I am teaching my daughter to use that and am thinking about getting a XT305 for her, if she shows interest.
I am running an XT705.

Good Luck

In prospecting mode it will hit them deeper but maybe not "harder". That is, the Coin mode on the X-terras have more of a saturated audio throughout most of their depth range. The prospecting mode is much more "analog" softer sounding the deeper the target.

But coin hunting in prospecting mode should only be done in trash free areas as it can drive you mad as sensitive as it is. 3kHz coil in prospecting mode is something that should be experienced, I know I don't want to dig that deep!

X-Terras aren't going to hit on those 10" planted coins here in this part of NW Oregon. heck, even the planted 7-inchers can be tough.

As for depth and responsiveness, you've had good replies. The motion Discriminate mode seems to have a more saturated audio (no modulation), while the prospecting mode's audio is more of a modulated (gray scale) audio that responded more strongly to shallower targets and then will start to trail off in audio response as the coil-to-target distance increases.

I used the Prospecting mode a bit on an X-Terra 70 as I do on an MXT, but I don't use it all that often. I prefer the discrimination response for most day-to-day detecting. Deeper target signals are generally more discernible, too.

And you are correct Monte, the soil here on the Texas Gulf Coast is very low in iron minerals, it's almost sickening...ha ha Machines have a tendency to go a little deeper and easier to run. HH John

Thanks for rubbing it in John

with a Garrett Groundhog. It was a straight TR/VLF but did have the steady hum and that's what I got used to. I like the fact that deeper coins will have a slight positive increase and easy to detect, that's why I was asking, I like the fact that the Xterra's will do that, I didn't know the 305 and 505 also had the threshold but I'm leaning toward the 705....thanks and HH John
