Threshold problem on Tejon! Help

I just got a used Tejon and when I go to ground balance it in all metal I can't hear the threshold I don't know what to do! Do any of you have problems with hearing the threshold? Any suggestions feel free to comment.
 
Anyone? Have a clue here? On threshold balance being lost?
 
If you can't get any sound by adjusting the knob. Might need to send it back to Tesoro. Sense it was a used detector. Over the phone with them they can walk you through a trouble shoot.
