I just bought a excal 1000 and happen to notice after turning it off, i can move the knob a little more counter clockwise and it turns on again
is this normal

But I just live with mine. You can send it for repair.I believe I have a couple controls that way. The are hard to turn spit is easy to break the stop. I make sure to unplug battery when it's not in use.

You have a broken pot. It will need to be sent in to be fixed. I would contact the seller and ask for a hundred back.

I agree with Goodmore, seller had to have known.

Just got mine back a few weeks ago. $96.00 10 day turn around new "O" rings and pressure test. The seller had to know. If it were mine I would send it in and have everything checked out. May be something else that you can't see. Then post the guy's name so we all know not to deal with him. Good luck.:ranting:

Talked with minelab and i am going to send it in to be repaired and checked, the detector looks brand new ,no scratches or ware on the entire machine
