Threshold on New Excaliber

Gary Wieck

New member
Have been using new excaliber for couple weeks and like it alot. When threshold is adjusted it produces a hum, but shortly after turns into a buzz. Only way to get hum back is to turn off and turn back on the detector. Hum always turns into a buzz. Performance seems good to me. Is this normal?

If this buzz is what I think it is than that is just the threshold of rejected iron when the threshold comes back. This is a tone I hear the most with my Sovereign. Just wave a nail across the coil and when the threshold comes back it will be a buzz, see if that is the buzz you hear then this is normal.

I think I know what you're geting at.......

I can lay my Sov on the ground and turn it on and the threshold will jump to the iron buzz in a second or two. Think this is because the Sov takes a second or two to search for whatever mineral value the ground has.

Also, if you are holding the detector and moving it around a bit as you adjust threshold with the coil near the ground this could happen.

Nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the responses, now I can stop worrying. Knew the performance was good, but thought something might be wrong. Thanks again!!!!!
