It was a truly Bermudaful afternoon and I headed out in my little fishing boat, Plumbago, to hunt the beach of a hotel that has been closed for several years now. The water was calm with just a light swell and the winds were perfect out of the NE. After a fun 45 minute boat ride I arrived at the beach of the abandoned hotel. The beach is relatively small and it was full of spiny sea urchins, sea cucumbers and conchs. It took me a while to clear most of the sea urchins out of the prime hunting area and get down to business; you really don't want to step on one of these little buggers as they will ruin your whole week. I started as deep as I could go and found a lot of boat junk but no gold and only a few coins. The hunt was looking to be pretty poor as I crossed back into knee deep water and a very rock shore, that's when I started hitting gold!!
The first ring was a plain 14k band and the second was a funky little .925 'LOVE' ring. It was starting to get on in the afternoon so I had to start wrapping it up after only an hour and a half but as I worked my way back to the boat I got that lovely, solid, low tone that just screams "I'm a Big, Fat, Gold Band - DIG ME UP!!". So that's what I did and sure enough that's what I found, a Big, Fat, 14k Gold Band.
It was definitely time to split now so back into Plumbago I hopped and headed back to the mooring where I tied off Plumbago and rowed back to the public wharf with 3 sweet rings in my pocket. What a Great Day!
Pics to follow as soon as I sort out my camera problem.
