I have taken advantage of the 80-degree Missouri weather lately by swinging the E-Trac. This time, I tried mostly private land and used the Pro Coil due to the lower trash density. I did hunt a public park with RCDetector one afternoon, where we each scored a silver Mercury dime.
I poked around my yard a little more and a neighboring house that was recently demolished. At the neighbors, I found two Civil War-era Union army buttons made by the Scovill Manufacturing Company. I also found a 1959-D Roosevelt and a 1901-P Barber dime. My house was built in the early 1950's, but I have found a lot of silver and wheats in the yard. I swept over an area by the garage and dug a slick 1913-P Barber dime. My buddy came over to help till a garden, and I am getting him in to detecting. I took the E-Trac over a spot that I have received an iffy signal on before, but never dug due to the fact that it is right under a tulip poplar tree - notorious for their roots! We decided to dig the signal (bouncing from 12-45 to 17-45, not pinpointing). At about 8 inches, we found the rim of a Mercury dime peeking out from a root cluster. 15 minutes later, we had the dime out!
The last hunt was in the woods at an old farm site. I found it on an old map, and got permission from the owner. I ended up pulling a Buffalo, two Mercury dimes, and my first ever Walking Liberty half. Pretty exciting! The half rang in at a solid 12-45, like a dime. I suspect that nearby iron was dragging up the Fe number.
Please refer to the video for the root dig and some of the finds.
Oh, ans a special thanks to Dr. Bob and Bill_S for recommending the Predator Raptor digging tool. I used it on the woods hunt, and it is a great tool.
