Three hours and a button...

Bavaria Mike

New member
The temperature has been above freezing the past three days, the fields thawed and some of the snow has melted off. Between 3 hours and 2 night hunts, this button is the only keeper I found but it was great being out there detecting. The button looks to be a French military button, possibly 1790ish, I really have no idea but the French were here in this area then. Here

Super nice button Mike. I have been hopen for some French stuff here but so far I have not found much. That may be worth a few bucks! :cheers:Stay warm and happy hunting.

Yea, that is a nice one. Looks French but I couldn't find anything in the book I have...just had numbered ones.....

It is a French Grenadier button dated later than I thought, 1870-1916. Most have a number like Bill pointed out. HH, Mike

Hi Mike! what a fine button. I found one like it but earlier back in 1998 in Nashville in my brother's yard. I think mine was worn by a Confederate Civil War soldier.

The birdcage looped back says:

"L'Entier"

A B

Bte S.G.D.G. PARIS

which means Entirety Patented without guarantee of the
government Paris

It is is an 1852-70 Fench military "Household Corps of the
Emperor" (Cent Guarde, Maison Militaire de L'Empereur) button.
You'll find it listed in the section of French military buttons in
Hughes & Lester's The Big Book of Buttons, and in the "France
1848-1872" section of The Emilio Collection of Military Buttons
by Luis F. Emilio.
