I mostly detect in parks, so finding a ring is always a treat for me. Last year I found just three gold rings. So far this year, I had only found one thin 10k gold band.
I was contacted this week through TheRingFinders.com by a young man who had lost his white gold wedding band playing ultimate Frisbee at a university intramural field. I woke up early this morning and was on the field by 4:00 am. It was dark and cold, but the ground wasn't too frozen to dig. I found a couple of plugs had been recently cut, so I knew someone had detected recently. I figured he probably got any goodies that had been there. I dragged a garbage can out of the way so I could check underneath and got a fairly steady 50 signal on my AT Pro. I dug a tiny 14K band from about 4 inches deep. Nice!
About 50 feet away, I found the lost white gold band I had been looking for. I heard a steady 53, and there was the 14K ring in the grass. Two gold rings before 5:00 am, and I still had half a day before I had to go home. I grabbed some breakfast, then headed back to a further field that I hoped hadn't been detected lately. There wasn't much there, but a couple hours later, a deep dime-sounding signal turned out to be a silver ring, about 8 inches deep. A few minutes later I got a deep 47 - 49 signal, and dug thin 10K band from about 7 inches deep. Gold #3!
I've texted the guy whose ring I found. He's excited to get his ring back, but I've still got the three tiny gold bands for this year. And they are tiny. All three together weigh only 4.2 grams. That's small, but gold is gold.
