THREE GOLD - ONE SILVER

Well, my Excal (Classic Edition) performed top notch over the weekend. As I was lucky enough to find these four nice pieces for my hard work. When I found the 22k ring, my first thought was that it was just a plated junker. But it is the real deal and tested right on with the Mizar M24 gold tester. The sterling ring was totally black and took some time to bring it back to a high luster. The bracelet had fallen through the scoop holes as I was checking to see what was inside. At first I thought that it must have been a pull tab because of the low tone it produced. But when I looked down at the wet sand, it was a different story. I picked up the class ring as I was walking in one direction and something told me to turn to the left. Five steps later, it was in the scoop. It was a if I dowsed its location. There was no reason for me to go that direction, as I was done for the day and heading in a straight line off the beach, go figure. A couple of bucks in clad, some junk earings, a set of house keys and a toy race car made up the rest of the take. Till next time, happy hunting, John

Real nice haul. It looks like the 22k gold ring already has a sizer on it to make it smaller. I guess they didn't make it small enough. It still fell off the finger and into your scoop. That's my kind detecting. Nice going!

Mat, it wil flex large or small. That was the reason that I thought it was a junker at first. Never saw a good ring that flexed before. John

I often wonder if we have better luck when we have a positive frame of mind when we go out hunting. I'll often go out surf hunting just to relax and quiet my mind after a particularly grueling day at work. When I'm relaxed at the end of the hunt that is usually when I find something, the beginning of the hunt is just to wind down and quiet the self talk that goes on in my head as I review my work day. When I'm realy pumped up about going out hunting and optimistic that I'm going to find gold I usually find something with a karat stamp on the inside. Other hunters on other forums have told me the same thing but I don't recall anybody talking about it on this, my favorite forum. Do you think that something similar happened to you John?
I don't like gridding and overly systematic hunting techniques, I'd rather just work the prime areas and let my mind wander to where the gold is.

JMHO,

BDA:cool:

Great mix of loot, wtg. I like the 22k ring, very nice.

Hi BDA, I believe that having a positive frame of mind helps in leading us to good stuff. Here is my take on the dowsing part of detecting. How many times have you gone out on a hunt, only to turn your detector on right next to a good find? Or how many times have you found something nice, as you were leaving and heading to the car? I think that those two particular time frames are when our minds are most clear. Whenever I get too caught up in my mind about finding gold, I don't. Now take a look at the fact that we are swinging a detector shaft out in front of us that is an extention of our arm. Why not call that a makeshift dowsing rod? In a round about way, I believe that there might just be a little dowsing that we do not know that we are doing when detecting. It just happens. John
