Three different houses today...third time's a charm!

Made it out for most of the day since the temps were in the 40s here - it was a gloomy, misty sort of day and all three locations I hunted were mucky (so much for cleaning the detector!)

Started out at a recently vacated house whose original owner passed last summer, but this person must have never ventured out of the house since hardly any coins or other targets were found. I spent three hours at the first location and all I had to show was a dime, a couple copper pennies, some keys, and a 1958 dog tag which was the best find IMO at this place. On the way to this house I noticed a construction crew was building a few new houses on an old site. The ground was scraped and the new foundations were about to be poured, so I mozied over to the construction site and looked around a bit. Again, not much was to be had at this place, and finally after digging one too many bottlecaps I decided to head towards the old neighborhood since there's always at least one house I can hunt most times.

Didn't see anything that I hadn't already hunted, so I turned a corner and saw a "For Rent" sign in the front yard of a nice candidate. I cold-called the number on the sign, and the owner was very agreeable. I thanked her and then started to scan the front yard. I noticed a few bottlecaps in plain sight and picked them up as I made my way across the yard. It wasn't long before I came upon my first Wheat, and the trash was primarily bottlecaps at this place. I got into one area that was a little chatty, so I switched to 4 khz and could isolate targets better.

Most of the hunt was conducted in 4 khz using Reactivity = 3 and a boatload of notch...00-70 and 92-99. I was after (most) Wheat pennies and higher in conductivity, but I also had my trusty 12 khz program one click away when I wasn't receiving many targets. Was able to pluck a couple of nickels...one dated 1941...in between a 6 X 6 area that churned out 8 or 9 Wheats only 2-3" deep. Not far away I got a "72-74" signal while in 4 khz which turned out to be a nice Merc!

Not five feet from where I parked the car I got a steady "75-76" signal which was another Merc only 3" deep. Two feet closer to the car I found 3 Wheats and 2 High-relief Memorials in the same hole. If I had moved the car back a little bit I'm sure more coins would turn up. I really didn't expect this rental to be so productive, but I also didn't expect the first TWO houses to be so DRY, either! Maybe a return trip is in the works for this rental...

I was able to get a lot better quality video this outing - the better finds are in the last 10-15 minutes...

I believe CZ is using a pair of Pivothead glasses to record.

CZ, nice persistence on that hunt...the weather sure looked miserable and you stuck it out for quite a while to get all those coins and that big pile of scrap. I especially enjoy your videos when I can't get out to hunt...it's like being there to watch you hunt even though I can't dig--it satisfies the itch until the ground thaws here. You prove a point when it comes to house sites; it's difficult to understand why some homes that should produce do not and vice versa. That spot with all the wheats in front of the last house looks like a place where someone may have parked their car frequently. I see that here in Nebraska quite a bit. It explains the odd concentration of coins. Most homes have a hotspot, but it's not always easy to find--some just have nothing.

I saw where your pinpointer was giving you fits towards the end. I experienced the same and decided to get the Deteknix XPointer which I've been very happy with...it doesn't false at all. It's much cheaper than the other pinpointers, does more and is very reliable. You'll spend much less time chasing targets after you've dug the hole.

Congrats on a nice hunt!

I used to have a love-hate relationship with the Pivotheads, but after adjusting a few internal settings and changing the video format to PAL over NTSC I get a little more vid time. Started out shooting in 1080p, but this reduces your memory capacity. 720p is plenty detailed, and probably 480p would be enough. I took about 68 minutes of video yesterday, and ended up posting ~49 minutes' worth. Had to recharge the battery twice in the Pivotheads, and the memory using the PAL format was only 55% full after shooting 68 minutes total.

I looked into the Deteknix XPointer but what kills it for me is NOT being waterproof. I mortally wounded my Garrett PP during one sloppy hunt and now it's erratic and there's no audio "beep"...it's very muffled and sometimes the tactile response doesn't work correctly. Am waiting on Garrett's new IP-68 rated PP - the higher the IP rating, the more service life you can expect out of it. Garrett's regular Propointer has a rating of IP 66 by the way...
