Three Coins Four Cents

Went to my sisters place in Marietta, OH and there is an old home site there. BIL had covered in the well, and pushed brush into the cellar or house foundation whichever it was. House foundation, i think. At the area between the covered in well and the foundation, i found the first coin, it was a 1885 Indian cent. The 705 read 28 on this one. Then my husband wanted me to go hunt another site he said looked better so we had a 4 wheeler there and go to the other site. But it was a fallen in house with log timbers, tin roof and a lot of aluminum can tops. The rest of the cans rust away and only the tops are aluminum and it reads 38 like a coin. The place was full of them. I did find a 1925 wheat around some rocks.

My husband went to run some errands so i had plenty of time to md but that's the only coin i found there. But i found a couple of Squirt soda bottles. They are pretty, they are green and have a corkscrew shape, similar to those walking sticks you where a vine climbed around the tree.

He came back with lunch, a steak sub sandwich and we went back to the house to eat. Hubby and BIL were talking so i went back over the hill to the first site where the Indian head penny came from. Searched near the same place as before and within 6 foot of the other place got a 30 reading. I thought maybe it was a quarter, but it was a 1864 two cent piece. I'd never seen one before. Looks like it's in pretty good condition, but i'm afraid to ruin it if i try to clean it.

Hope to go back again. If so, i'll take the Stihl weedwhacker with a brush blade and cut down the briars growing up from the foundation, so i can get closer. Also, there's a fallen tree, if i took a chainsaw and got rid of that, could cover more ground.

Best hunt i ever had in my short experience, LOL.

You're doing great --- I've hunted for years and the two cent peice still eludes me!!!

awesome finds, I have only ever dug one 2 cent piece and I distinctively remember it was a solid 42 on my x-70, I expected to dig a quarter and was pleasantly surprised to see the 2 center

Thanks for the comments. G4E, your 42 reading made me go and do an air test on the 2 cent coin. On the 704 it reads 32 but in the ground it read 30. Hummm, maybe there was something else there. A lot of iron in the ground and some erratic tones and TIDs. There's prob a lot of good stuff left there, i'm just a novice. I'll go back when i have more experience.

Nice, I have never found one of those. Hope I do some day.

Hope you do too, 7CW...was beginner's luck for me.

you know what maybe I was mistaken and was thinking of a large cent, cuz I just air tested a large cent and a 2 center. LC is 42 and 2 center is 30. So I appologize you are correct!

I'd like to find one of those too... a large cent.

Thanks guys, i never thought about it being a no header, but yeah, sure enough it doesn't have a head like most coins. I don't know what the Dos Centavos is, have to look that one up, LOL.
