Threaded Lead Plug? Mid 1800's Military Site

I found this threaded lead plug yesterday and would like to find out what it is. It appears that it would only take two rotations for it to seat into place and is solid with no holes through it.

The bullet was found nearby and is for size reference. Thanks

I found a lead plug very similar to what you have there while searching around an old house site last year.
I don't have a clue what it is part of and posted mine after I found it, but got no replies.
I posted a photo of it again below.. maybe someone can ID them for us this time around.
Yours probably had a handle that got broken off judging from the looks of the little stem.
The one I have has a small disc on the bottom that is not magnetic and may be brass or copper, but it is a different material than the rest of plug.
Hopefully this will aid in IDing these items for us.

I think we both found the same thing Felix...only a tiny bit different style. Mine is solid lead but does have a rounded bottom. Been wondering if it could be a stopper for a powder keg or maybe a water barrel. I'm sure you are right about the "T" handle being broken off of mine too.

Thanks for posting your pic. Maybe someone out there will have some more info to help us.

I would think it is to a spigot of some type, is is simular to a water spigot the is used today if you think about the shape of the body and threads, fast opening

I don't know what it is for sure, but I have read that during the CW, one army would "plug" guns - I think they were talking about bigger guns, like cannon, so that they can't be used. I have only read about it when the Union defeated the Confederacy, or the other way around, and the winning army would plug the guns that they couldn't take with them. It could have been for plugging the fuse of a cannon I suppose. I have seen other items like this, with the handle broken off like in your photo.

Pure speculation on my part, and I know that.

they would spike cannons by driving a iron spike down the primer hole them bending it over on the inside so it could not be easily removed

I've seen one like this before somewhere that was maybe used as a make shift canteen stopper but maybe yours is too big. Nice find. CCH
