Thougjhts on the M6 and depth

I currently own a Tesor Silver uMax for land and a Tesoro Tiger Shark for fresh water. Both of the machines are great machines, but I want to get a deeper land machine. I like the Vaquero and it's price but am also interested in the M6. I hunt mild soil and this would be used for coins and occasional jewerly. I know the M6 is a quality unit and although heavier is said to be quite well balanced. I know the Vaquero would serve my needs well, but I have a keen interest in the M6. Can the M6 get deep like the Vaq?

I'm not trying to start a Tesor vs. Whites bashathon just looking for some good honest opinions on the M6. I have also read for a TDI machine the M6 is spot on.

The M6 is not a TDI machine, it is a VLF. It is also a coin magnet. It is also a beep/dig detector, though it does have a limited number of tones available. IMHO, since the M6 is a stripped down MXT, you'd be better served going with an MXT Pro with a 10 inch double D coil.

I believe you meant a TID detector as in Target Identification. In other words it has a meter showing probable Target ID and depth which the Tesoro doesn't have. The M6 is a great coin and jewelry detector made for folks that don't often relic hunt or have a need for the Prospecting mode. I have both the M6 and the MXT Pro. The M6 is used quite a bit more often than the MXT because it's easier to setup, and runs more quiet. The MXT holds the advantage when it comes to nugget hunting but for coins and jewelry, I don't see any advantage to the MXT including depth. If there is a depth advantage, I've yet to see it demonstrated in actual field use. I've owned a number of Tesoros in the past and they make great machines. The Tiger Shark is still my go to fresh water detector, but for my money, I'd take the M6 over the Vaq.

I have a MXT and a Vaquero, both good machines, but the Vaquero is deeper

Tom is correct, I did mean TID machine not TDI. Sorry for the mistake.

Topo, how much deeper do you feel the Vaq. is?

Right now in some of the areas I hunt I am finding clad from the seventies and sixties at 4-6 inches and am thinking the silver is probably deeper. The Tesoro Silver uMax is a coin magnet but I feel it's depth is limited to 6" on coins, maybe a little deeper under ideal conditions. I am looking to get down deeper and dig some sweet stuff but do not want to spend an arm and a leg to do it. I also like simple, turn it on, a few adjustments, and go.

I hunt around different kind of soils from clean and less mineralized (woods) and on well-mineralized soils (some of them are dark red clay).

While doing some tests, on the vaquero with stock coil and the MXT with 950 coil, I found the vaquero (on disc. mode) would be at least 2 inches deeper than the Mxt. I'm able to get a clear two-way signal (on a coin) with the Vaquero, while with the MXT I get a threshold faint

I have to add that most of the finds are in the first 6 inches of soil, sometimes we don't need more depth, just a good spot to hunt :)

I have an MXT with a 6 x9 DD, 13", 4 x 6 DD, 9.50 concentric, and the 12" coils. Nothing works as well as the 6 x 9 DD. Lighter than the others except the 4 x. 6. I have pulled dimes and quarters from 8" all the time with it. I feel the AT Pro with a 5 x 8 DD is a little better, but you cannot beat Whites build quality. If you really want deep and a lot of information get the CTX 3030. It's heavy, but balanced well. deep, deep machine on silver.
