Thoughts on the T2 and possible smaller coils....

After using the T2 for a while I find it becoming my favorite, but that's another subject.

I've been thinking about the possibility or need for smaller coils. Most detectors need smaller coils to hunt in the trash and get targets among the trash but with the recovery speed of the T2 I am wondering if this is even an issue with this machine. I am finding stuff all around trash and I posted this the other day but it hit on a dime and I dug two pennies out of the hole efore finding the dime... I really don't think a small coil is a necessary thing with the T2.

Also, and I don't know about the technical stuff so i'm asking here...
My Soverign GT has a Digimeter and the Digimeter has an adjustment pot on it because when you changs coils to different sizes the meter is off and you have to adjust it to the coil. I'm wondering if this would be a problem with the T2 and different coil sizes, since there is no adjustment for the meter. Maybe it's no problem or maybe it would require a software upgrade... thoughts?

Still, after using this detector for several weeks now, I see no need for more coils... am I missing something?

Well I think this is a good subject to write about. Big Coil, Small Coil or leave it alone. I think if the T2 was going to have a small DD coil it would work the way it should work. And from what I have read the coil it comes with does a great, fantastic job but there are those times when a small coil fits in tight areas better.

Now I use a small coil on all of my detectors and I have a Compass Gold Scanner Pro and a six inch coil and it hits on small targets. It is not a DD but this detector is about 15 years old and I think Compass made their coils different from most coils on the market. The small coil is tighter and really seperates the multy targets better.

I have a White's 6000 Xl Pro and used the eliminator (5 inch coil) and then got a 4x6 DD and what a difference. So I think a smaller coil done right on the T2 could be something that could open up a lot of new ways to hunt. The only way to know is when it comes out and we all get a chance to use it and write about it...I think more people will buy the T2 if a small DD coil comes out that works!

Julien,

I am diggin here in Germany and the one problem I have when I got all these targets hitting is when I change directions of my sweep. I like to both investigate the target further and double check my pinpointing. A smaller coil would probably help me out here. In other words, yes, the machine finds and ID's all the targets, but changing directions for checking and pinpointing brings up more problems. I have about 40 or 50 hours on my machine fyi.

I'm a new user with an ID machine. I have a Nautilus IIB and use it's small coil in trash. But much prefer the id machine now. Perhaps as I get to know the detector better I will agree with you. But, then again, you really won't know how a small coil will be until you try it out. You know, it's like anything else, you get shocked by a great product and think it can't get any better but then... BAMM it did!
