Thought it was trash....

Hit a couple spots last weekend with my dad. Fors Core, Di3, preset everything. 11" coil. Very trashy areas, but old. Party central with beer cans and trash. EVERYWHERE. One of the finds was junk (or so I thought). Later was going through them, and what I thought was just a weird piece of brass had a "slot". Cleaned it up and it looks like a broken spur.

I've found two other spurs in this area. The other two seem to be of a different style.

You guys think this is a broken, straightened out spur?

You said there was a lot of trash, but did you find a clean enough spot to Ground Balance? If so, I'm curious what the Ground Phase was at your hunt site. Also, thank you for providing your search mode and primary setting information. I wish more people would do that on any forum.

Hey Monte (and John). Highly variable ground conditions around here. If I remember correctly the GB was around 60 in this spot. I've noticed that areas where I would think the ground would be really hot (red sticky clay) I might not get a high phase reading. Sometimes if I cant find a clean spot, I'll go ahead and start detecting without ground balancing. Then after I get a find and remove the target (and any iron that might be in the hole) I'll ground balance over that spot.

but when swinging the coil sounds like a machine gun, and there isn't a clean spot to ground balance, this is probable better than nothing. When I finally find a cleaner area I'll GB again.

I found the one spur about a year and a half ago. Been pounding these area.

Then in the span of 2 weeks with the Core I find two more. (Well, 1 1/3).
