Found this key wound watch (silver?) at an old estate. It was on edge, about 8 inches deep. Im diggin and see it and say wow got my first silver dollar. But alas no go. The other is a pile of watch guts found at the same estate. Got also two indian head pennies that day. Good Hunts All, CO

Thats a good hunt and a trophy find there! :clapping: There has to be a lot fewer silver pocket watches out than than silver dollars a guy would think?

That would of probably of stopped my heart momentarily thinking it was the big one too! Neat find for sure!

Earthly , yes you got my reference there. When you blow this pic up you see what i mean. In the ground on edge , from the size of the arc, i really thought it was a very large silver. And then with the fluted edge, it just had to be. Oh well Ill get one some day. Thanks for looking, CO

Osgood,

Nice find. I would think you are running out of places to hunt but I guess not. I heard you and a buddy worked the old Lawrence brothers farm..(my spies are everywhere) Happy to say you guys missed a few keepers..a barber dime and a nice 1830 large cent were the best of it...hard to find anything behind you so I must have just got lucky.

No wasnt me. I know the original family and would of sought permission had i not previously known it was sold to some big corporation and out of their hands. I have several good spots to hunt in the very near future. Good Hunting, CO

My family knew them well (we lived across the street) and I had permission from the Maines brothers to hunt the property. I just found out last week that they have since sold the land. Got wind of an old stagecoach stop in the woods..maybe when I am in town around the 24th I will send you a message and we can try our luck..It's a pretty good hike uphill to get there but it might be worth the effort.

Same thing happened to me a week ago with a silver watch case. I thought it was gonna be a morgan. Still a lot cooler than a coin though

Hey part of the Montrose Turnpike? Ive been looking for years now for the old toll house for that, on the very early maps. By my research I swear its less than a mile from my house. However I think they covered it all up when they elevated the highway. CO
