This year's "Old Gold"

Mostly 10k except for the middle one that's 18k, 11.7 grams. All deep Dual Field and Aquasearch finds that came from looking for the lowest, oldest grade.

Nice finds Clive!

What do you mean by lowest oldest grade?

Thanks,
Neil

Well, at my beach the winter brings in a lot of loose sand--basically silt with nothing in it but caps and tabs. To find any gold you need to look for where the lowest points are--where older sand is being exposed. This is usually later in the season when more of the new stuff has shifted out. The two signets in the picture came from one spot where a thirty foot gully opened up. It actually helps to note where the water comes up to on you at various distances from shore--deep water close in usually means you are closer to the marl. Everywhere else the gold is way out of range.

I'll have to work harder in the deep but not far out areas. Got a week at the beach coming up and will be looking. Was in one area like that last summer, but not for too long, as the swirling current action took my attention off the waves and I went rolling. As I hadn't gotten a chirp from the detector, I moved on. Maybe should have stayed and covered that bowl shaped depression much more carefully.

Clive,
No wonder your books are so good, you live them! Thanks.

That's right. Scott. Go deep! Might help get through all that Gulfstream sand. We're all concerned about your weight--finds, that is--not body. Hope you like the book.

nice finds!!
I've got an excalibur2 and been reading your books
on my machine and have learned allot about the way
I can use my machine, I've been doing pretty good in dry and
wet water line sand,3 gold rings just in the last two weeks,
I'm still confused as to what exactly your looking for when
one goes into surf? I've been mainly hunting the south east
coast of Florida ,do you ever get my way?I'd really like to see
and learn more.
Thanks
john

In the area I hunt the sand shifts with the seasonal storms.

It is either tossed high on the beach exposing the cobble stones underneath (rock bottom!) for perfect hunting conditions!

Or it is washed down off the beach covering those cobbles in some places a foot or more (Time to hunt the dry/wet sand above the waterline!)

The waterline shifts as much as twenty to thirty feet sometimes as the sands advance and retreat.

Once in a while a major storm will move the sand a lot more and present us with exceptional hunting, but these are rare occasions and don't last long, so a hunter has to be ready!!

If you don't have a PI Scott.. then your not going to find the deepest heaviest gold ;)

edited to add... you can lug around a 12 pound scoop but not use a PI? :)

If I DO buy another PI, it will be on your's and Craig's recommendation AND it will more than likely be a DF.
