Here's Charles Himself........

We all detect different but the rod is too long and elbow bent eventually will lead to premature fatigue, not to mention the tip of the coil being bent up in the front preventing a line swing...Of course pictures can be deceiving and depends when picture was taken...and of course just my opinion...surely of course open to discussion...

Obviously, had Charley known what the caption was about, he would have surely used much better body mechanics and proper coil postioning. Of courses, when you get to Charlies age, good body mechanics might be a greater challenge then many of our bodies. Good points you brought up Dan :)

Pictures are deceiving especially where he is hunting and believe he is right handed. Heck swinging lefthanded is a chore for me not to mention I am pushing 70 and would hate to have someone take a picture of me especially two hours into the hunt...Funny how different detectors work..Garrett advises an inch or so off the ground and Minelab advises basically scrubbing the ground...Hope I didn't offend anyone but just simple observation....

Heck no! :) I advise scrubbing the ground too. That's why we have detector covers....so we can wear them out and not the coil

like a park. Wrong photo for the illustration as that ground is anything but level. For Dan-Pa. my Garrett, old GTA100, gives false signals if bumped on anything, hence the 1" above the ground. If I found half of what Charles Garrett has found I would be fortunate to sleep, I would be so excited. I seen guys that have detected for years doing the "U" swing. Oh well I'm not perfect either.

I would be quite happy too if I could have Mr. Garrett's treasures that he has found over the years. I have read all of his books and he is a real genius, yet has a heart of gold.

I'm past 70 and am ambidextrous so hunt with both sides. Makes the day last longer Charlie may be an ambie also.
