This weeks finds

Boy whatta week!

I got out for about 6 hours this past week, on a private home and a small island at the end of our street that kids play on all the time. I found a ton of clad and wheaties, some back in the teens, a 1907 indian head, a war nickel, 3 silver dimes and two silver quarters. One early flat button says Blue bell on it.

I also found a 10k gold ring which I gave to the property owner as a way of saying thanks for letting me hunt on his property. The biggest surprise was the Ann Klein II gold ladies wrist watch. It was 3" deep and looks like it would run fine if I have it cleaned.

My settings were DE, sensitivity at 70, 4h tone and disc at 6. I think I've just scratched the surface with this machine, but man is it fun to hunt with!

And oh yea, only dug a couple of pieces of trash too.

Nice haul.

I notice "6" is a recurring discrimination setting mentioned on this forum. Are you just skipping basic iron and relying on the display for visually selecting good targets? I've been up around 53 to 55 for discrimination and notching back in the Nickel rance (26 to 35).

This is the first detector I've owned with a notch and I feel the need to use all the luxury that is available I guess. :lmfao:

I've played around with the discrimination quite a bit. I've had it all over the place, but I find when I use the 4h, I can hear the low tones and for me its easy to separate the good from the bad. I seem to dig less trash when I can hear it.

As I mentioned, I am just beginning to learn this machine and will continue to play with the discrimination as time goes on.

One thing I've done is sweep in all metal and when I get a good deep signal, switch to discriminate and if its non ferrous, I play with the sensivity and discrimination to see if I can get a stronger signal.

I'm having alot of fun just experimenting and playing around.

But we are promoting 6 disc for hunting in iron. NASA Tom is a huge fan/promoter of this, & disc on 6 w. the F75 mirrors disc of 21 on the T2. This is a "noisy" setting but it's a fact that more disc than that produces masking in heavy iron. Disc on 6 can make targets leap out of the chatter if you listen closely. But again, I use 15 in "normal" style hunts....6 in iron.

For relic hunting? Or always and in general. I gotta admit that in the recent past I never truly differentiated between "coin shooting" and "relic hunting" as there is much history underfoot here and you just never know what may turn up. I do try to limit the hole size in parks as I don't want to draw an angry crowd for lawn destruction.

as buttons, bullets & stuff will be alot higher....
Bottomline it just comes down to how much iron you wanna hear. I like all metal in open areas too. That way I have an idea what, if anythings in the soil I'm hunting.

Bill
