this weekends finds and some ID help!?

Well, I managed to get out this weekend. I hit two different spots.

Unfortunately I ran out of daylight when I started turning up the old goodies.

-1828 U.S. Large Cent
-a war of 1812 U.S. Infantry (Scripted "I" with a star in a circle below it) button
-two saddle? rivets
-half of a huge fancy crotal bell
-a couple flat buttons
-horseshoe looking item

the other place turned up a 1913 barber dime, and a 1903 indian head penny

Does anyone know what the horseshoe shaped item is!?!? It's way to small to be a horseshoe. It's 2 1/4" long and 2 1/2" wide and only 1/16" thick. Looks like brass. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for looking.

As far as heel plates go anyway, usually seen as iron in the Civil War... good piece in my eyes. These were put to use because of all the marching.

Good stuff,
Dave

much appreciated. Someone else told me that's what it was as well, but the only heel plates I had seen are the cut out ones. Very cool. Wish I could date it...I doubt it's 1812 though!?!? It did come from the same place as the 1812 button...
