This weekend's beach finds...

Well, it was a hot one this weekend... Here's some pics of the finds this weekend:

Some clad, a gold? ring (has a 9 or a 6 stamped in it), 14K pendent, 2 stud earrings, nice lure (for my brother :)), 2 lighters, a big dinkie w/ broken suspension :( and a '45 wheatie if you can believe it... I have to say, the Exp II is REALLY sensitive. I couldn't believe it picked up the stud earrings... not much metal on them at all.

Here's the ring; the heart in the center is a pinkish gold color:

The pendent (or part of an earring?)... I thought for sure it was a piece of foil; first one I've dug up with those numbers that wasn't.

This stud is a junker; probably was plated at one time:

This stud is .925 and the stone looked really, really good (still does)

And here's the wheatie; found it fairly deep in the dry sand. Pretty good condition.

Have a great week!

A good haul Joe ! I like a variety of finds. It wont cost anything to have the 925 item tested for diamond. One just never knows. Sounds like you are feeling out the detector very well. Thanks for the pics ! Steve

Sure is hot all over the nation today. Was going to go out this morning but had a lot of other things to do first - then - thought since Casey wasn't home I should take Sherry out for a 'date'. By the time we got home it was way too hot to go melt in the sun.

Glad you made it out - hope the weather cools down - just a little - not a lot. Want to keep them swimmers and sun bathers coming to the beaches. :)

Well, since I got the Exp, I just can't put it down to use the CZ-20 :) I made the mistake of getting the 8" coil for the CZ... (I'll have to find enough clad to pay for that  ) So, I've been using the Exp near the water when the tide's low enough. That's when I wear the swingy thingy so I don't accidentily drop it. (although I don't actually go "in" the water; just the very fringe of waves). I say about 70% of my time is in that area where there isn't an enormous amount of targets; less junk and less clad. However the potential for gold is higher there. I really should break down and go in the water with the CZ for a while and then go back to the car for the Exp... (that's what Philo does)

I went to two beaches this weekend. One is on the North Shore on Long Island Sound; the body of water between LI and Connecticut (no waves). I picked up the junk stud earring on a sand bar pretty far out. My 2nd time there yesterday morning, I worked a line from the high tide mark down toward the water. Some guy had already gridded out just about the whole beach but not quite a tight enough grid :) I found the ring in about 10 minutes and it was maybe 3ft from his footprints. The 2nd stud earring was about 10 or 15ft from there; both closer to the high tide mark. (darn if that stone doesn't look REAL good... I'll have to get it checked out). I doubt very much if the CZ would have picked up any of them. The stud earrings were small with VERY little metal and the gold ring is less than a size 3 and the band only 1/16" wide. On top of that the beach is pebbly with lots of hot rocks. I think the Exp found what the others missed...

The south shore beach (on the ocean) is really big. I hit that (very thin) gold pendent thing in the dry sand just above the high water mark. It was a real junky signal, just like a small piece of gum wrapper, but I dug it anyway...

Just about all of the clad I found was found at that beach. If I just wanted shoot coins, I would clean up :) I made up a coin / jewelry pattern (for the real trashy areas) using the X-1 that seems to work pretty well. Knocks out some of the common junk and still accepts gold.

Take care!

I'm gonna have to come up and hunt that beach with you sometime!!

Yeah, I know I should get in the water but it's not easy hunting in the surf. Even if you're up to your hips, you can get pounded out here. I have a 6" Monster scoop but it really needs another handle welded to it (to lift). Should have gotten the 7" with the "looped" handle... the diameter of the handle on mine is too narrow and it's difficult to get any leverage to lift. I watched the guys in the surf and they're able to dig real deep reel fast.

But, I'll do some water hunting this summer either way... :)

Last weekend was the 2nd time Vicky went out and she did much better with the Fisher. She did all her own digging too!

She was away with her Mom Friday and Saturday so I took full advantage and hit the beach. Hot here too, but really nice at the beach; beautiful weekend

Come on down...anytime!
