Saturday I went out into lake St. Clair with my boat and 2 friends. First dive I found a silver ring in the first half hour. Then I found a ring that was right on top. A mans 14K band. I then picked up a womans 10k white gold ring with a black onyx stone and small diamond. A silver religeous medal and a LOT of 30 and 50 caliber shells were my notable finds. I also found a buffalo nickel that still had the rim the words 5 cents and the buffalo left in it. The rest was cut out. Not a whole lot of change but it was fun.
On the second dive I came up with a silver ring, a 14K wedding set with a diamond that is about one third karat and 10 little diamonds. A lot more 30 and 50 caliber machine gun shells and a bit more change.
I got VERY tired of digging brass. The 30 cal were ringing up as a solid gold signal and the 50 caliber were ringing in as a solid coin. I did get some live 30's but not one slimey live 50 caliber. The dates on the 50's are inbetween 1921 and 1944. I also got a junk ring that might be silver but i haven't found my magnifying glass or camera yet. They are still packed away somewhere.
Well Sunday was an exciting day. BUT it started off kind of bad. I knew I was diving again today but I didn't prepare for it at all. I thought I had a full tank of air and a half a tank and some in another tank. In testing all 7 of my tanks this morning I found I had no full tank and one half full one that was a third full. Since no dive shops are open here on Sunday I was BUMMED.
Ok, picked up Randy and John and headed to a new lake. This lake is private but a person lost 2 silver rings and wanted us to find them. We got to the lake and talked to the lady in charge. She was great. She was happy that we could clean all the junk out of the swim area.
I got suited up and went into the water. It was a crystal clear lake. BEAUTIFUL. Somebody has snuck in and cleaned up the swim area BUT they didn't go outside it. What a bonanza!! The first gold ring I pulled out has a masons symbol on it in the middle of a red stone. Then I get 2 plain bands, one is 18K and the other is 14K. My last gold ring is a 14K signet ring. 6 silver rings and 4 junk rings brought my count to 14.
11 silver coins. 1915 Barber quarter and 4 Washington quarters. 4 mercs and 2 Rosey's. Suprising only 4 wheats. 6 silver religeous medals and one silver cross. One silver necklace and 2 small silver bracelets. 2 brass and one aluminum religeous medal.
Of course another Zippo lighter and an old toy plane. The plane says Made in U.S.A and Navion on the bottom of one wing. It is missing the propeller.
Randy got a very nice 14K signet ring and a 1933 Walking liberty half and a few silver dimes. One was a 1913 Barber. He also got 2 silver rings. John got a gold ring from 1928 with GS on the top and a 1908 Canadian quarter.
It was a great day for all of us but better for me since I was able to go deeper than both of them.
So now I am up to 63 gold rings for the year. The water in Michigan is getting colder and I might not be able to play much longer. This week is going to be great and so I am hitting a spot every other day. Maybe I can hit 70 gold before the year is out.
