I had my Compadre w/discrimination right below iron nail because the old schoolground was loaded with tiny iron. I was getting broken signals from some of the iron but nickels-even a buffalo-were popping out everywhere-probably from others running higher discrimination. It was BLAZING hot but I was in the shaded area of the schoolyard. Still, I was feeling really HOT. Then, it happened. I started hearing TWO tones in the headphones. The Compadre was only about 6 months old and I was dreading sending it back in. STILL, the signals were clear-only they sounded like a car horn blowing. I took out the headphones and the sound was the same from the speaker. I was near the edge of the shade from the trees, so I finished until I started feeling the rays of the sun. I took off the headphones and headed for the van. I cleared my throat and then it hit me- it was me! I had gotten too hot. Whenever I talked or cleared my throat it resonated in my head like a hollow box. I HAD GOTTEN TOO HOT-EVEN IN THE SHADE. Take care, guys.

Be careful out there.
We have a tendency to get so ingrossed in what we are doing, we forget that anything can happen. Heat stroke is a serious thing. I have started carrying water with me.
I have shifted my hunting from sun up to about 10 AM. Past that it is touch and go in this heat.

i suffered a bad case of heat exhaustion one time. i did concrete labor work at the time. the cramps felt like my muscles were ripping apart on all major sections. the ONLY time i have screamed bloody murder from pain. not to mention all the vomitting, dry heaving, chills(in 100+degrees), and the ice bath when i got home. i would highly recommend NEVER letting yourself dehydrate.

good post slingshot, i feel that more awareness should be brought to this subject

Ditto, it was the 24+ hours from hell. At the time I didn't know what was going on, I was cold and couldn't sweat even though it was near 100 deg F and I was drinking bottle after bottle of water.
Once you are there, its too late to hydrate. Fortunatly I was young and recovered from it.

I've been in the construction trade all my life as a carpenter and I was never good in the heat. When I know it's going to be a hot one, I down a bottle of water before I start. If you can wear sunglasses and a light colored hat, do it. Like plidn1 said "we get engrossed" we have to snap out of the spell and think to ourselves 'how am I feeling, do I feel normal or a bit out of body'. If you feel a little odd, stop, sit in the shade, drink water, COOL DOWN! and don't push yourself....
When you are working or playing in the heat you'll notice you don't have to pee like normal even after drinking a lot of water..your body is using it up.

Add me to the hard knocks school of heat stroke. I was young and stubborn and working alone. By the time I realised how much trouble I was in and headed for help I almost didn't make it since I could barely stand. Took three days to recover. Be careful out there folks!!!!
