This was not one of my better days.......

I spend most Saturday mornings doing guy stuff around my farm. As is usually the case, my tractor battery is down, and I bring my pickup around to jump it. I have worked on this tractor in this same spot for 10 years and have never had a problem.

This time my nephew had parked it more on the incline than I ever do. I kicked it out of gear, walked around to attach the cables, and watched as it slowly picked up speed and head over the hill.

It went straight for over a hundred and fifty yards, and took a hard left just as it came up on the pond.

A Young guy and an ol drunk show up. The youngster tells me he has had harder jobs, so he tells the ol man to get in the water and tie on to the tractor.

The fellow looks at me and says,, I would sure appreciate a beer before I go in there. ( I usually have a cooler with me). They pull it out,, ( cost me another beer). I ask him if he would go back in and find my hood, if I give him $10.00. Sure I can, he says, just have another beer waiting for me.

The up side was it only cost me $175 to get it pulled out. ( not counting the beer).

I drained the gas,(broke the gasket on the settlement bulb,)will need to replace the fuel filter, oil seemed ok. Couldn't find the muffler.I will go back in the morning to see if I can get it started. I will keep you informed.

One thing about a good tractor........they never loose their value like a car. I bet you could get more than 3 times the orginal price now for it.

When I was 15, I managed to allow our BF Avery (from the 30's) to roll off the edge of a small cliff. One of those slow motion moments as I watched it go end for end a few times, down into the floodplain. My dad hired a bulldozer to cut a path to and and pull it out. Still running today (The tractor, not me)

I feel your pain.
