This thing is addicting

I can't even drive around now without inspecting the grass of every home, field, park, school, or church. Dirt lots now provide an instant attraction. Yesterday I had my best day ever. I went to my middle school to hunt at 6am (we're furloughed this week) and then to my church where I have permission to hunt under an oak tree. In 4 hours I totaled 67 coins, all clad on my silver umax. I can't believe how lost I got out there just concentrating on the sound. Today it's off to the oil fields around with my father-in-law to hunt some old homesites. I haven't hit on anything of real value yet but for me the value has been finding something fun to do and the thrill of what the next beep/blat will uncover.

This forum has been great. You folks willing to share knowledge are awesome.

Dave

You look at everything differently. Trees on a hillside, there is usually a washed out spot on the downhill side. Ridges in the woods stand out to me.

An addiction for which we neither desire or need a cure for.

It only gets more and more addicting each time you go out. I do not get out very much time with work and family responsibilities, but that makes it to where when I do get to go out I get excited. I read once that a real detectorist spends at least six hours of the day thinking about metal detecting. I think that may be a low number. I have never spent a full day hunting, but someday hope to. Too many other things need to be done. I do find myself always on the look out for new places to detect and I am always thinking about where I should try next. I wish I would have found this amazing hobby before wasting time and money on some other hobbies. Hope everyone is having a great year and finding some amazing stuff.

Its a wonderful hobby, I have been at it almost 30 years. Getting outdoors having fun detecting and reading posts like yours sharing your happiness is what it is all about.

Yep it is addicting for sure................... I bought a cheap very small hand held digital tape recorder.. Now I just record the areas I see that I want to go back to.
Sure helps one remember all the potential areas you drive by.. " So many spots, So little time"

It only gets worse LOL!!
I have definately become addicted as well and after 5 years, I am still checking out every house I see going down the road wondering what goodies the yard holds.
Very good hobby for relieving stress and headaches and rewarding too!
Good luck to you and happy hunting,
Felix

I just got back from the old oil fields near my house. We hit an old foundation where a house stood years ago and then was burned to the ground about 30 years ago. A ton of trash but then I hit my first wheaty! I think it's from the 50's as its not clear yet but it was my first so I was pumped! Only found four other pennies but I got to play around with my disc so I learned alot that will only help me later. Tomorrow we're hoping to hit an old abandoned mansion(looks haunted) that goes back well over a 100 years and was also used by hollywood for movies some years back. We're waiting on permission as the owner lives out of town. Hopefully my first silver will come tomorrow.
