THIS TEJON IS A BEAST !

I went to my old picnic grove for a short hunt this morning before it got too hot to hunt.
No old coins today but I was totally amazed by the Tejon today. I hit a deep signal that pinpointed small like a coin
but the signal was loud like a shallow trash target. I cut a 6" deep plug and the target was still in the hole.
I dug another couple inches of dirt out of the bottom of the hole and the target was still in the hole.....hmmmm.

I loosened some more dirt and finally found the target.....a brass or copper rivet about 1/4" in diameter at a solid 9 inches deep.
The same thing happened on a small metal shirt button.....it was around 7 inches deep and sounded like it was right on top of the ground.

I have a Vaquero and was hesitant getting this Tejon because I had always read they were very similar in depth etc, except for the obvious differences in features.
While the Vaquero is a great detector, the Tejon reminds me of a 70's muscle car.....you can drive it 55 but it was made to run balls to the wall !

I'm blessed with great black dirt here in Western Illinois and this Tejon seems to love it. I'm able to run it full in the max boost with very little chatter until I turn it completely full sensitivity then I have to back it off a tad.
Bad ground might have an effect on the Tejon, but if you have good soil like mine, you might want to get a better digging tool cause you will need it. I'm very happy with my Tejon and can hardly wait to spend more time hunting with it.
Keep you coil to the soil and HH..............Roger

Sounds like a great machine, someday I'll get my hands on one :)

deliveryboy, You won't be sorry for sure. It would fit right in with the nice selection of Tesoro's you already own........HH

I was pretty sure that you would like the Tejon Roger, and am happy to hear that you like it alot. I bet that you will be making some more good finds with it.

Hi Steve, I'm very happy with my Tejon. It reminds me of my 1266x a lot except in a more compact package.
I can't wait to get it in the fields when the crops are out. I think it will do a fantastic job there....HH

Love the Tejon, made a mistake and sold mine a while back, but have recently attained another one and that will not leave again. I had the V and as stated, it's good detector, but I would take the Tejon any day.

wheatymike, I haven't had the Tejon long enough to tell yet, but I have dug a few pieces of big iron with it.
Most of it was round iron rings off a horse harness or a big link out of an old chain. From what I have seen so far , it is very similar to the Vaquero is that aspect......HH

The Tejon will gobble up some iron, but if you raise the coil above you can cut some of that.

How is the Tejon in iron as compared to the Vaquero?

The Tejon works around small Iron much better than the Vaquero when you try to push the Vaquero's sensitivity up real high. The closer you take the Vaquero to "Super Tuned" it becomes more like All Metal, starts hitting on rusty nails and other small Iron. The Tejon doesn't seem to do this, even @ max sensitivity it still work around small Iron very well.

My vote would go towards the Tejon.

Nothing against the Vaquero it's a great detector but I am with Mark on this one.

that is deep , and the black dirt helps , do you find arrowheads as well I heard ilinois is loaded with Indian relics

kaolinwasher, Yes, you heard right. Illinois is loaded with some fantastic indian relics. I have hunted relics for many years and found tons of stuff.
My best personal finds are a large steatite elbow pipe and a Hopewell platform pipe made of ohio pipestone. I also found a beautiful serrated dovetail
arrow that was 6 inches long and looked machine made it was so well flaked. It had the tail snapped off and was an old break.....talk about heartbreakers !

Along the river there are sandy ridges in the fields and it is pretty much campsites everywhere you look. Found several hematite plum bobs in these areas.
Many years ago you could walk these sand ridges and literally fill your shirt pocket full of nice tiny little birdpoint arrows, even found 3 beautiful multi notched Cahokia points.

I've found several axes and celts over the years and have a friend that found a copper rat tail spear on a sand ridge in his field, and know of two copper celts found in my area, one by a friend
who found it farming....a huge copper celt that weighes 13 pounds. I purchased an Etley point from a local farmer who found it that was 9 5/8 inches long.

I know of a cache that was found along the river after the flood of '93 that consisted of 30 some complete and partial bannerstones, a 6 inch long red Hardin barb, and many other nice artifacts.
I got to see most of the cache and there was some awesome pieces I would have loved to have found. This cache was named the Bullseye cache and you might find it searching google.
Sorry I got a little long winded with my answer, but I wanted to let you know of some the things I have found or know of being found here in west central Illinois............HH
