This seems crazy to me...RE: how to set your sensitivity...

Let me know what some of you more experienced users think. The "correct" sensitivity for this site was found to be ELEVEN?? I'd NEVER have thought to run it that low. Is this technique for finding the "correct" sensitivity, one that anyone here has used, and if so, what were your results (i.e. limiting depth of detection...)?

The video is here:

http://www.mlotv.com/view/399/allow-explorer-s-threshold-to-select-a-sens-level/

I mean, I understand the "headlights in the fog" analogy, and how TOO HIGH of a sensitivity setting can actually LIMIT performance, but this seems EXTREME to me. Anyone?

Thanks,

Steve

There are some real GURUs over at MLO and Des is one of the best. However.... they are in Europe and we know that things differ even from state to state here. The more sensitivity the more noise, minerals, EMI and targets being processed at differing depths. If i was going to run my sensitivity that low.... id just run it in Auto and let the machine do the setting. Masking is likely our worst enemy and lowing the sensitivity in difficult areas helps as does opening up the IM. The coil takes less time to recover from a tone that a null.

I'll have to give it a try. I have noticed (in my very limited experience with my Ex2) that a lower sensitivity will make the threshold return faster after sounding a tone. I'm trying to get away from the logic of "just set the sensitivity as high as you can".

Interesting to hear it from a different angle. Good reading, thanks.
