This post came from the NVRHA Forum HB2078 the real reason why this Bill was Written

I contacted the delegates about House Bill No. 2078 and wanted to share with you some of their responces. Delegate Moran said that the reason Del. Van Landingham is trying to pass the bill is, and I'm quoting this from my e-mail from him, "The patron has explained that she is concerned that these relics are being collected by individuals. She wants them shared with the public." Basicly, she believes people can't own relics. Please e-mail del. Van Landingham and object to this obserd idea. I don't see a bill banning people from diving on shipwrecks and taking stuff, and this is diffrent. It sounds to me she doesn't know anything about what we relic hunters do. She wrote a book on the torpedo factory in Alexandria, Va and now she thinks she's a big time historian, but she isn't. Some good news though. Many delegates still do not agree with the bill, including Del. Abbitt who told me he opposes this bill also because he saw through Del. Van Landingham's real motive and knows that we the public have done most of the research, writing, and work to find these artifacts, and we deserve to keep them.Del. Callahan also does not agree with the bill, and he is a relic hunter and knows were we are comming from. Del. Cosgrove e-mailed me and told me he was impressed with the amount of people e-mailing him and other delegates to tell them about the bill. He too is in opposition to the bill. But, you need to keep on writing letters to the delegates. Many still haven't made their mind up (at least that is what they told me) and listen to the imput of people, So keep on e-mailing them. The patrons for the Bill are Del. Van Landingham and Del. Plum and their e-mail addresses are:
Del_Plum@house.state.va.us
Del_VanLandingham@house.state.va.us
I honestly don't know anything about Del. Plum except that he is a follower of Van Landingham. E-mail them and tell them how wrong they are. I'm only in 9th Grade and do not want to be kept from the hobby that I enjoy very much for the rest of my life. ACT NOW!!!
EDWARD

Well said Edward. I have asked others who have interests in hobbies other than just relics to join the fight. It's another plot to take control of our lives from a misinformed politician.
I think there is a forum here just for this topic called Virginia Bill on Relic Hunting Forum. See you there!!!
Rick.
