These two detectors are of two different breeds! but both are good!

The whites 6000 is geared towards coin hunting with an ID meter. (Yes! you can use it for other types of hunting but its design is around coins)

The Fisher 1236x is more of a beep and dig, so its more geared towards relic hunting.

When both detectors were new to the market the Whites had a much higher price tag than the Fisher, but that is only because of the extra features and not really better or worse.

I'm thinking that for me and I was looking at those two machines I would step up the Fisher to a 1266x or the 1270x. But both of them are still beep and dig machines, but they are upper lines to the 1236x.

You've got at the time an upper line Whites (even top of the line when it was new)
Then you've got the lower line of the Fisher 1200 series.

The 1266 was the top of the line in the 1200 series in the same time of the Whites 6000.

If a person was going to have two DIFFERENT types of detectors (Relic vs Coin) and was looking at some older detectors then the 1266x and the 6000 would be a GREAT pair for sure!
