Went searching along the river close to the water's edge, looking for coins and/or jewelry. Wasn't expecting to find this. Will take back and rebury where I found it. What do ya think ? Someone wanting their ashes placed at their favorite fishing/swimming hole? It was about 3 inches deep. Found a little clad, lots of fishing weights and the usual junk.

Cant imagine they would bury the ashes as opposed to scattering them around, you never know. Is Spokane Crematories still around?

I found one at the beach in South Carolina a week or two ago. Took it back yesterday and returned it to the ocean. It was from Pa.

Kinda Eerie to find one of those in your scoop.

Yeah Larrbear I tried to look it up also. I don't think its around anymore, although I would think any of the crematories could look that number up.
The idea that someone buried a box with that tag is kinda creepy. You gotta do what you think is right.

Thanks BillF, I appreciate that. It seems like the right thing to do to take it back. It is a beautiful place, so I can understand if that is where they wanted their remains to be.

Usually when the ashes are scattered, from what I gathered, the tag that is placed with the ashes and gets tossed out in the act of scattering remains. Not 100% but that's what I've heard from a family member in the past.

Just FYI ... These types tags are also used for pets that have been cremated so the one you found may not have been for a person. But regardless ... returning it to where it was found is the right thing to do.

Found it 100 miles east of Oakland CA (says Oakland on the tag) in a pond that was at a low water level. Thought it was a pet tag at first but when I called the place they assured me it was a persons tag but would not give me a name or any other info. About six years ago.
All the best
