This morning's low tide yields old gold and old coins.:crylol:

I got out for the low tide at 6:30 this morning and decided to stay close to home and hunt the waterfront off of the old town of Somerset. The trash was thick with bottles piled with beer cans along most of the bottom, thank goodness I don't own a PI machine as it would have been impossible without my Excal.
I got down to it and it was pretty nippy even with the wet suit on. The first find was a Queen Victoria Jubilee Medallion 1887, that I think is pewter. Next good find was an 1848 large cent courtesy of our friends to the west in the USA. This was followed by an old british coin that is silver but I can't find it online yet so no ID for now. Finally about 2 hours into the 4 hour hunt I hit pay dirt, an old United States Marines gold ring, very heavily encrusted and corroded. By the damage the salt water has done I would think it was 10k but I am still cleaning it so I can't say just yet, probably WWII vintage.
Here's the pics of the loot, forgot the camera this morning so no pics of the hunt itself.

The medallion reads 'Victoria Jubilee'

The back of the medallion reads 'Born 1810, Crowned 1838, Married 1840

This ring is half way thru the cleaning process - it was in bad shape

After cleaning I will try for a return but so far no identifying details, I'll just have to wait until it's cleaned.

Nice stuff BDA... I like the ring even though its pretty well shot, I found a 1940 10k HS ring that looked like that last week.

n/t

It would be great if I could somehow trace this old ring to it's original owner but time will tell. I still have to clean it down to the point where I can look for details that will help me trace it.
Otherwise I have a big chunk of gold for the smelter.
If anybody can help me ID the silver coin on the left in the first two pics it would be greatly appreciated, I've not had any luck so far with my research.

Regards,

The sand has shifted around pretty good lately as we have had lots of gales blowing in Bermuda. The deposits have been hard to follow though because of the autumnal equinox causing quirky tides.
There is definitely loot to be had but you've got to work for it.;)
Keep at it GH, you are one of the hardest working hunters out there.

Cheers,

PS HOw's the Huntress doing?

Hunted monday with Huntress. We both got a little gold, but have not had time to post yet. Previous to that time the last hunt for me was on 10-30. Work and unfavorable tides and conditions have prevailed lately. Post coming soon. GH
