This mornings hunt, Coin Purse Found

Went back to the old one room school house site where i have been finding IH and wheaties at. The one with the electric fence, lol. Anyways, started out the day with a 1892 IH bout a half hour later i found the tax token. It says Kansas sales tax token, has a hole in the middle with ones on both sides.Does this mean its a 1911 or is it mean its good for 1 cent or what, i dont know anything about tokens. Worked my way around where i was told the boys outhouse area was and found this coin purse type item. I dont know if its actually made to be a coin purse or what. It kind of looks like an old lighter that someone may have taken the guts out of but i dont know. It has an emblem on the front. Anyways, i could tell there was atleast one coin in it but i wanted to wait til i got home to take them out so i could take pics of it. Ended up being 7 pennies and 4 .22 short unshot cartridges in it. 6 Were wheaties with dates of1928, 1917,1919,1918,1923, one unreadable and one 1907 IH. I thought it was pretty cool even tho there wasnt any silver in it. Did a little more hunting on the way back towards the truck and managed a 1903 IH and another 1919 wheatie. I think i am gonna name this the penny school. Lol. With the coin purse find that puts me at 6 Indian heads and 12 wheat cents and not a single silver coin or nickel from this old school site. Starting to think someone cherry picked it years ago. The guy i know locally who hunts said he never found a single coin here? Maybe the kids just didnt have any silver coins to loose. Im gonna keep on trying and start working my way further out around the school yard. Thinking about doing some digging sometime in the two old outhouse holes but idk. I have never done that before. Thanks for looking and HH. Sam

That would certainly qualify as a good hunt despite the lack of silver ... congrats !!

Nice hunt!! VERY COOL.

The "one" on the token means "1 mil..." a mil being 1/10 of a cent. These tokens were issued by several states, generally in the '30s and '40s...they were used to pay state sales tax; if you bought 1 cent item, and the tax rate was 10%, how would you pay the tax? Not with another penny of course, that would have been a large "overpayment." So, you'd pay with a penny and a 1-mil tax token...thus paying 1.1 cents (and satisfying the "tax man's" 10% tax on your one-cent purchase...)

Found out on another forum that it is a boy scout match holder. It has the spot on the bottom to strike the matches and everything. I will clean it up and get a pic of it. thanks, Sam, I went back there for an hour and pulled three more wheaties this afternoon but no silver. bummer

REALLY SOME NEAT FINDS -WAS GOING TO TELL YOU THAT YOU HAD A MATCH SAFE
BUT SOMEONE ALREADY DID -BACK IN THE OLD DAYS -THEY WERE VERY POPULAR AND EVERYONE HAD THEM-
IHAVE HAD SEVERAL STERLING ONES OVER THE YEARS AND THEY SELL FOR GOOD MONEY
THEY START AROUND 30 DOLLARS AND GO UP TO HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS.THEY ARE STILL VERY COLLECTIBLE
LOOK ON EBAY -UNDER MATCH SAFES-------GOOD JOB--------HH CURT

Well i ended my silver slump today, found a 53 washington in my front yard where i have hunted several times. lol. Only silver coin i have found in my yard, only found wheaties before. So i am happy, went a few more feet and found a 53 wheatie. Whats the odds. Hoping to get quite a bit of hunting done this week with the longer daylight hours and nice weather. HH
