Got out for a little bit this morning, sure is great weather for detecting here. Dug some drops, buckey ball, gromets, camp lead, two eagle coats (one fell apart), and a brass ring with two pieces of leather with rivits still attached. The suprise of the day is in the 2nd pic, and digging in sure made the hunt, I almost did a chicken dance <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> .

Its half of a Bridle loop complete with US bit boss. it is alot smaller than the 1863 issued square bridle loop. Could this one be for a mule?
