This morning - William III Half crown and Edward hammered.

Congratulations! Some great finds, especially the milled half crown. As a Yank who goes to the UK once a year, I agree with you regarding to the rarity of early milled silver. I would estimate 50 (or more) hammered coins are found for each piece of early milled silver. The Half Crown should have a letter below the bust identifying the mint (Chester, Exeter, Norwich or York). I can' t help with identifying the Edward piece though. Great finds and continued success to the Detecting Crew!

Thanks for the replies ladies and gents. I also post on the Relic site here, but nobody ever replies, so I gave up for a while - I'll stick to here for the future.

Just to update you after I left on Sunday (the lamb was so tender after 5 hours cooking!) - Johnny pulled out 4 more pieces of silver, including 3 hammered coins - one I think is a commonwealth penny (English Civil War period), Henry III penny, a battered Edward III (?) penny and a Vicky sixpence. It bolds well for this future as the site is huge by our standards (200 acres) and the coins have come off several fields. Photos are on www.DetectingWales.com under the Detecting Finds section. My Medieval strap end has been confirmed as 14th Century so we are talking the 1300's - I wonder what else is waiting to be found? Going back on Saturday!

I'll start posting here weekly. Myself and Johnny both use Explorers II and Mark a Sovereign. Between us though we own an arsenal consisting of 2 Explorers, a Sovereign, 2 Muskateers, an Explorer 30 and a Quattro. You could say we are sponsored by Minelab! Great machines!

Hi Neil, GREAT FINDS MATE! I'm almost jealous as we here in the states are struggling to find 50 to 80 year old coins while you all are pulling up 300-400+ year old coins! One day I hope to make it over there and hit your dirt for a while. Good luck and congrats!
