This is what its all about ?

This is my finds pouch emptied out over a period of two yrs. There is lead, iron, steel alumnium, brass, zinc and maybe a little silver or gold that I missed. This is an Archaeologist dream and a metal detectorist nightmare. I learned my machines by digging all of this and I collected it out of curiosity. I'm sure there maybe a worth while relic here or there. My good stuff wouldn't fill a qt. jar but the bad fills a 30 gal. trash can. I cleaned alot of peoples yards and public parks of some potentially hazardous materials. I didn't include all of my beach finds because I usually discard them in a trash receptical before leaving the area. I'm sure that my beach finds would have been as much if not more. Alot of sweat equity there but worth it, I do enjoy the hobby.

Ha! That's a wonderful picture Grunter. We all have connections to it. If we guess the weight, do we win a prize? Contest!!!

My guess is 45 Ilbs!:clapping:

I don't know how much it weighs but I can't lift it and for my age I'm strong. I would probably have to empty it into other containers and take it to a scrap metal recycler to have it weighed. I will one day seperate the different metals and haul it to a recycler. Every time I would dig a target I would make mental notes of the tones,VDI's to learn what my machine was telling me. My hunting buddy tells every one we meet that I dig everything and he is more discriminating. I've found a few things over these two years that are keepers due to their uniqueness. I love the hobby and as long as my back, knees last me I'll be doing it at every opportunity. I remember once when my buddy and I were detecting that he was skunking me real bad. I was digging everything,he was cherry picking. I said a little prayer and ask the Lord to put my step over something worth while. The next tone I got sounded sweet. I dug up an aluminium key chain charm that read" You have to kiss alot of Frogs before you kiss your Prince Charming" Those pictures are my Frogs and that little charm taught me a very humbling and valuable lesson about metal detecting.

I have had hunts like that ...................

Okay, lets skip the coins, I see a lot of tabs in just the top of the can, it the time frame of finding that trash how many GOOD pieces of jewelry did you find? (No Junk pieces)

Most of my hunts have been like that. In fact, not real sure why I'm still relic hunting. Guess it's because it gets me outside and I've met some neat people and seen some unusual things. Like a lot of things, it's the experience that counts.

That is a lot of digging. I only bring home the copper and brass. The rest I find a trash can and unload my finds pouch. Another thought comes to mind. In all that digging how many dollars in modern Clad coins did you salvage in the process?

Lol, wow, that's a lot! About the same as my and I imagine most people's experience. Just a dang good thing I enjoy "hunting" as much as I enjoy finding something worthwhile.

During this 2 yr period I found several hundred dollars worth of clad and probably close to a hundred dollars face value in silvers, coppers i.e wheats,I.H. barbers, mercurys, rosies, walkers, washingtons and around a hundred + buffaloes,V's,jeffersons. and war nickels.

Suddenly that garbage can full of trash seems a lot smaller.

You seem like a person who is not easily discouraged,
