[size=medium]Hello Everyone,

I ended up at McArthur Park this mornin.

I took these two photos August 27, 2008.

This is tha oldest park in Little Rock. It's steeped in history.
David O Dod was hanged not far form here. An arsenal was
constructed here in 1837. It became a park in 1893.

It may be the most hunted park in Arkie Land.

It is extremely difficult to hunt. A carpet of trash exist in all
tha old places. Most of the park has been covered with back
fill. But I am old enough to know some old spots. The old
trees help also.

This is the area I hunted today:

I took that photo where I started hunting. You can not se it,
but I was standing under a large old tree with exposed roots.
Grass has not grown there in 45 years that I know of.

I was still under tha tree when I found a musket ball?

It's a pistol ball just like the ones I used to sit around a fire
and pore melted lead into a mold to make. I made them
with an original antique musket mold. That was during tha
Centennial Anniversary of tha Civil War. May be it came
from that time.

What do you think?

Or is it older than that?

I got another surprise after that. I dug a 10 gauge shotgun
shell. This is the last place I would expect that.

Here are tha rest of my finds for tha day:

The foundations of those old buildings are exposed there.

The tree I was under is at least 36" in dia.

There should not be any fill there.

But, that really does not prove anything.

Relics are found on top of tha ground.

I have dug a pull tad at about 15"

But tha condition of tha musket ball would

seem to indicate that it is around 50 years old.

Give or take about 25 years... lol

Anyway,

It is another Metal Detectin My-Story.

Happy Huntin,

Tabdog

Tabdog,an area that old still has a few sweet spots.Hunt the site in different sections and you'll retrieve some real old coins.

Sink rates... It's a puzzle that just can't be solved. You could speculate though that the sink rate around a tree would be slower than a low spot where water sits many times a year. A piece of metal could sit an inch under ground on a root for 10 years until the root "moves" out of the way. The canopy of the tree could reduce the amount of rain and the root structure could help stop ground shifting. Even the consistency of the dirt can be different in different parts of the smallest area.

I watched a landscaping company install park benches in a park across the street from where I worked a few years ago. They also plopped about a 3 tons of dirt in various places and planted grass on it. A water truck came by every couple of days that spring and now you can't tell it's anything but natural. I can only imagine that the contract was for a "park beautification" or something similar. I never hunted those little mounds, but I bet they were junky. In 10 years no one will remember or know that that happened.

From the land of the Bluenose.....gotz to give you credit me bouy for digging in that trashy areaaas ti takes patince and I see that you were rewarded. As for your question...........not a clue me son. Happy hunting!
