This is something I post every once in a while for those that are new to the Sovereign, hope it helps

This is a repost I saved on my computer to help others and dont have to type it out everytime to show some of the thing I have learned with the Sovereigns.

What I have learned with the Sovereign series of Minelab detectors

The Sovereigns are a different type of detectors and not like anything most have ever used. These do take some time to get used to and the biggest tip I can give it DON

Rick,
I don't own a Sovereign but have just started researching them.
You say that the threshold nulls over iron, does this happen if you are searching in All Metal Mode also? or only when you are using discrimination?
Dan.

With the Sovereign with the disc turned all the way down it will still null over iron and some minerals too. Now in the all metal pinpoint mode it will not null over iron, but the little I have tried it i believe some minerals still will cause the null too. I hunt in the disc with the disc set to 0 as for me around here it goes deeper than all metal pinpoint does for me. With the disc I get the multi tones so I have tone ID which you don't in all metal and much easier to hear a tone change than the threshold slightly increase.
The Sovereign are great detectors and take a little getting used to them from the beep and dig detectors, but are made for those that are serious about detectors and going to go out to use them. If you plan to use them very little each week some other ones maybe better for you, should use at least 4-6 hours a week to get to know them.

I have seen a Sov null in both modes but it has been rare. Have seen it with a wad of small wire, a cheap tennis bracelet, and a mineral pocket. I may have seen it with a couple hot rocks too, but has been so long ago that I don't remember for sure.
I think that in rare cases certain objects respond with such confused signals that the Sov has trouble figuring out what they are. They don't match up with what the Sov has established the ground to look like, and also don't respond like metal objects either.

Thanks for posting again Rick,
I remember this from a while back when I was thinking on getting the Sovereign.
I printed it out and refer to it now and then to keep in the learning process.
I still recall the things you told me a while back on your experience with the Sovereign and how you were wondering
what you had gotten yourself into when you first tried one.
I was somewhat confused about mine when I first tried it out too, but after some time with it and although I am still learning,
I am seeing what this detector is capable of if you take the time and have some patience with it.
Although I haven't found anything super deep with it yet, I have experienced how capable it is at finding coins next to iron even with the 10" coil.
I never gave much thought to how many coins could be missed due to iron laying close to them, but now I see that it can be alot of them as I have seen from my own experience so far.
Now I need to play with the sensitivity settings to get at those deeper coins I'm sure are still at this location I have been searching.
Thanks again for your in depth advice,
Felix
