This Is Getting Old In A Good Way!

I have been detecting with my old Bandido exclusively for the last couple of weeks and every hunt I discover more about this oldtimer. This am I went back to where I found a couple of wheats on Saturday and was not expecting much to turn up. I started out hunting this particular field 15 years ago with CZ's and Explorers. I guess this is why I am always amazed when I find something in the 60 plus age range here. I immediately started finding clad coins from the surface to 5 inches deep and as always, it was a fun time. When it beeped, I dug. I did not circle the target for five minutes analyzing the signal, I just dug it. I can now estimate the depth just by the loudness of the signal. Today, I was thumbing the disc on most targets so I started out with the disc set to about 3. I was ten feet in front of one of the soccer nets when I got a slight "crackle" of a signal. This signal was extremely faint, but repeated when I checked it from a 90 degree angle. Went into all metal and got nothing more than a break in the threshold. I really was thinking deep rusty iron. I dug a bigger plug that was about 8 inches deep. The target was still in the very center of the hole, but a couple of inches deeper. This is a good sign because rusty iron is not usually in the center, it is off to the side. I gave the Pro pointer signal a wide berth to make sure I would not nick it with my digger. I got it on the drop cloth and was again amazed to find a coin. It was a 1900 V nickel ! I know there is alot of exaggeration about depth, but this coin was an honest 9-10 inches deep. For the record. I was using the 8x9 coil on the Bandido.

thats excellent, how did that get missed ,

That's a great find. It's so nice to not have a screen with numbers where you have to spend 4 or 5 minutes analyzing a target! Good for you!

Really?

Nice find with a nice detector ! Wonder what the next surprise will be ?
Sounds like you are really liking your Bandido.
Good hunting to you ! Gene

My apologies John, I read over that in RL's post. He has been around a long time, he should know better. Spending 5 minutes analyzing a target is not the fault of the detector. (meter or not)

Nice going!

Screen detectors will talk you out of digging some really good targets.

John, I have to laugh. Like most detector guys, I do exaggerate a wee bit and while I have thousands(no exaggeration) with all of the Explorers, I poked fun at the Explorer guys. I have spent a couple of minutes doing wiggles and drags from every angle possible trying to get the "warble". Not too much of that going on with a Tesoro. If it beeps from two angles, I am going to dig it. Screens and tones have their place. I love them all.
