This is fun - really

I'm posting this because metal detecting is fun, no always super productive but just fun. Hitting that signal is exciting and you never really know what you'll find. I headed out in the yard right before dark this evening taking the Compadre, my Leshe tool, and Pro Pointer, figured I had maybe 20 minutes to spare. Of course in my target rich environment the Compadre sounds off quite a bit so I cranked up the dial and scanned a couple of small areas. My take of halfway decent was small, two pennies 1981 and 1983 then a spent .22 Remington Special case. Point is it was fun, just a few moments of exploration that took me back to maybe the 1950's thanks to that .22 case. Hmm time travel on a budget I guess.

I did that last night before sun down , just fun to dig a beep i found 16 twenty two shells. and some nails , I enjoys practicing, and it cleans up things. keeps me in muscle tune

Great memories! I had an old Uncle...very unassuming and quiet guy, steady eddie, worked hard all his life..very happy kind of guy though, nothing rattled him...

He once told me about living through the Depression...said his Dad left and it was up to Him and his Mom to survive...said his Mom took eggs into town to sell/trade...said She got him 3 .22 shells one Sept for his birthday....
He was instructed to pole a boat upriver into a big dismal estuarian swamp up the MKG river and kill 3 deer with those rounds, or not come home!...said he would set up in a likely crossing place and be out there all night if need be and put that .22 round right behind a big deers ear as it was swimming across the river!....He was not bragging, actually shuddering on the rememberance...and didnt seem to enjoy telling the story like it was some great hunting feat or anything...He was 13yrs old at the time...

Everytime I find an old .22 shell, I think of my Uncle Chuck...everytime I piss a box of 50 off target shooting, I think about him too, and am ashamed....Thank you for the post and pics, JMC...

Isnt that what it is all about. Just get out a little for some fresh air. A little relaxing walk with the compadre or what ever you use. Sure it is nice to find some gold or silver. If I thought of it as a job, I would hate my job detecting. You start and stop when you want to. I hunt a lot of tot lots in the mornings before work. It kind of relaxes me before I have to do something I dont like. Sometimes I find some change or a charm. It is all about fun... KEN. Ind.

I got a friend that only is still ticking because he lives for metal detecting literally! he has so many health issues due to lyme disease I don't know how he does it. he has been detecting for over 40yrs.

Having fun is what it is all about. Plus you just never know what that next target will be. Could be a nail or it could be a nice ring or old coin. For me it does not matter. The fact that I'm outside and not sitting in front of TV on a nice day is a good thing.

Its all about having fun and enjoying yourself, must admit in recent months i had started to 'not' enjoy it as much as i had for many a long year, but stopped using high tech machines for a while and drifted back into using the good old 'beep and dig' machines and the enjoyment has come back again.

All the zillions of alterations that some modern machines offer dont always produce you much more in the finds pouch, but take up valuable detecting time changing all the settings.

When I go out...I drive to the park. Put on my headphone. put on my belt with pouch. attack the dogs leash to my belt. Grab my detector. plug in the headphons. Ground balance and off I go.
NO special settings. Just swing till I get a beep and then I dig. When I use the goldbug pro I often get frustrated because pinpointing is not quite as accurate and I sped extra time tring to figure what it mighty be. With the csc and the Outlaw its just swing, poke recover and go on and on...
