This is another old gas station................

This afternoon, I drove over to the site of an old Mobil Gas Station that is located in the Alamo Heights area of San Antonio. I remember this Mobil Station still being operated as a gas station in the late 1970's. Somewhere along the line, it ceased operations as a gas station and was converted to a lady's clothing store. The clothing store kept the exterior original as possible, but did make a few minor changes. I do not know what changes were made to the interior. This is a beautiful old gas station that is now vacant and for rent.

On the way home, I stopped and took a picture of an old dance hall that was built in the 1940's. I was inside this old building about twenty years ago and there was still a stage at the rear of the building, but was blocked off from view to the general public. It has been operated as an antique store by the same owner for the past thirty-five to forty years. If you look closely at the pictures, you can see that the building is long in depth. Hope that you enjoyed the pictures. Kelley (Texas) :)

roof looks like the old Flying A horse.... We had them here on the sides of the buildings, stamped out of metal. Neat that it survived the time..... The building looks a little like the Taco Bell buildings they put up in these parts. Good pictures, thanks for post.

Lots of "period" buildings in Texas some over a hundred years old and still in use. Most buildings not in a flood plain or caught in a tornado last for many generations.

Lots of old cars around too. I can remember a few Model Ts being driven regularly as family cars when I was a teen in the '50s.

Thanks for the memories Fred,

CJ

It is a batch when things you used to use are now antiques :( Store's you shopped in have been closed for 50 years now :D

I keep thinking where it now has the glass panels on the front and front sides were open space. Kelley (Texas) :)

I like old buildings and old historical sites...they always bring back good memories. Kelley (Texas) :)

One of the car washes I built was just down the street from the station. Everyboby wanted the sign of the flying horse. I am glad they kept it all together. Sure wish gas stations looked like that again, with full service, and something to remember them for.

I love those old historic sites... There is a real air about them

And the architecture... man that is something else. There is a real beauty in those buildings

Many thanks for the trip.

in that link that you provided. I sure dislike seeing these old gas stations fade into history. Thanks for the link. If you find any more old pictures, sure wish you would post them. Please visit us again! Kelley (Texas)
